Operating Instructions
Proper use of your DoubleDown 4 ensures safe transport of your bikes.
Extending the Arms
- Locate the TriggerFinger™ Release lever on the mast.
- Pull the lever to release the arms from their folded-down position.
- Extend the arms horizontally until they lock into place.
Loading Bikes
- Adjust Cradles: Adjust the SwitchBlade™ Anti-Sway Cradles to fit your bike's frame perfectly.
- Load Heaviest Bike First: Always load your largest or heaviest bike first, closest to the vehicle.
- Position Bike: Position the first bike so the chain is facing towards you and away from the back of the vehicle.
- Secure Straps: Pull the durable rubber straps over and around the bike frame, then hook them into place on the cradles. Ensure all bikes are tightly secured to prevent movement.
- Non-Conventional Frames: For non-conventional, step-through, BMX, or some full suspension bikes, a TubeTop adapter (sold separately) is required.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance will extend the life and performance of your bike rack:
- Cleaning: Clean the rack periodically with mild soap and water, especially after exposure to dirt, salt, or harsh weather conditions. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Inspect Straps and Cradles: Regularly check the rubber straps and cradles for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Replace worn components as needed.
- Check Fasteners: Ensure all bolts, pins, and connection points are tight and secure before each use.
- Lubrication: Apply a small amount of lubricant to moving parts, such as the tilting mechanism, to ensure smooth operation.
- Storage: When not in use, store the bike rack in a dry, protected area to prevent corrosion and damage.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Yakima DoubleDown 4, consider the following:
- Bikes Swaying Excessively: Ensure all anti-sway cradles are properly adjusted and the rubber straps are tightly secured around the bike frames. Verify the hitch bolt is fully tightened.
- Difficulty Tilting Rack: Check for any obstructions or debris in the tilting mechanism. Ensure the release knob is fully engaged. Lubricate moving parts if necessary.
- Rack Feels Loose in Hitch: Re-tighten the large hitch bolt. Ensure the safety pin is correctly installed.
- Bike Frame Incompatibility: If your bike frame does not fit the cradles, a Yakima TubeTop adapter (sold separately) may be required to create a horizontal top tube.
