5. Setup
5.1 Initial Inspection
Before first use, inspect the pump for any visible damage that may have occurred during shipping. Ensure all caps and fittings are secure.
5.2 Adding Vacuum Pump Oil
- Remove the oil fill cap.
- Slowly pour the recommended vacuum pump oil into the oil reservoir until the oil level is between the "MIN" and "MAX" lines on the sight glass. Do not overfill.
- Replace the oil fill cap securely.

5.3 Electrical Connection
The VP6S features a dual voltage motor (115V / 230V). Ensure the pump is connected to an appropriate power supply. The pump automatically senses the voltage. Use a grounded power cord suitable for the local electrical standards.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Connecting to a System
- Ensure the system to be evacuated is depressurized and isolated.
- Connect a vacuum-rated hose from the system to one of the pump's inlet ports. Ensure connections are tight to prevent leaks.
- If using a manifold gauge set, connect it between the system and the pump.
6.2 Starting the Pump
- Ensure the oil level is correct.
- Close the gas ballast valve (if applicable) for initial pull-down.
- Plug the pump into a suitable electrical outlet.
- Turn the power switch to the "ON" position. The pump will begin to operate.
6.3 Monitoring Vacuum and Using Gas Ballast
Monitor the vacuum level using a micron gauge. If moisture is present in the system, the vacuum level may stall. To assist in moisture removal, slowly open the gas ballast valve. This introduces a small amount of atmospheric air into the pump, preventing condensation of water vapor within the pump oil. Close the gas ballast valve once the desired vacuum level is approached or when moisture is no longer an issue.
6.4 Shutting Down the Pump
- Once evacuation is complete, close the valve on the system or manifold to isolate the vacuum pump.
- Turn the pump power switch to the "OFF" position.
- Disconnect the power cord.
- Carefully disconnect the vacuum hose from the pump and system. Replace protective caps on pump ports.
7. Maintenance
7.1 Oil Change
Regular oil changes are critical for pump longevity and performance. Change the oil when it appears discolored, cloudy, or after every 10-20 hours of operation, or more frequently if evacuating systems with high moisture content.
- Ensure the pump is off and unplugged.
- Place a suitable container under the oil drain plug.
- Remove the oil drain plug and the oil fill cap to allow the oil to drain completely.
- Replace the oil drain plug.
- Refill with new, clean vacuum pump oil as described in Section 5.2.
- Dispose of used oil responsibly according to local regulations.
7.2 General Cleaning
Keep the exterior of the pump clean and free of debris. Periodically check the exhaust port cap for any blockages and clean as necessary.
