Operating Instructions
This section details how to operate your Wahl Balding Clipper for optimal results.
General Operation
- Power On/Off: Locate the power switch on the side of the clipper. Push it up to turn the clipper ON and down to turn it OFF.
- Hair Preparation: For best results, ensure hair is clean and dry before clipping.
- Holding the Clipper: Hold the clipper firmly in your hand. The ergonomic design allows for comfortable grip during use.
Achieving Ultra-Close Cuts and Balding
The Wahl Balding Clipper is specifically designed for extremely close cuts, often referred to as "balding" or "skin fades."
- Without Attachment Combs: For the closest possible cut (approximately 0.2mm), use the clipper without any attachment combs. Hold the clipper flat against the scalp and move it slowly against the direction of hair growth.
- With Attachment Combs: Use the provided 1/16" or 3/16" cutting guides for slightly longer, uniform cuts or to blend fades. Snap the desired comb securely onto the clipper blade.
- Technique: Use smooth, overlapping strokes. For balding, stretch the skin taut with your free hand to ensure a clean, even cut and to prevent nicks.

- Brush Blades: Use the provided cleaning brush to remove loose hairs from the blades.
- Wipe Body: Wipe the body of the clipper with a clean, dry cloth. Do not immerse the clipper in water.
Oiling Blades
To maintain blade sharpness and prevent rust, oil the blades regularly, ideally after every few uses or if the clipper starts to pull hair.
- Apply 2-3 drops of Wahl Clipper Oil across the top blade teeth.
- Apply 1 drop of oil on each side of the blade, where the top and bottom blades meet.
- Turn the clipper on for a few seconds to allow the oil to work into the blades.
- Wipe off any excess oil with a soft cloth.
Storage
Store the clipper in a dry, cool place, out of reach of children. Always use the blade guard when storing the clipper to protect the blades.
Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your clipper, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Clipper does not operate. | Not plugged in; power outlet not active; switch off. | Ensure clipper is securely plugged in; check power outlet with another appliance; turn switch ON. |
| Clipper pulls hair. | Blades are dull; blades are not oiled; hair buildup between blades. | Oil blades as per maintenance instructions; clean blades thoroughly; consider blade replacement if dull. |
| Clipper runs hot. | Lack of oil; excessive use without breaks. | Oil blades; allow clipper to cool down between uses. |
| Excessive noise or vibration. | Blade screw loose; motor adjustment screw needs tuning. | Tighten blade screws; refer to the fine print on the clipper body for motor adjustment instructions (usually a small screw on the side). |
