Setup and Installation
Before You Begin
- Ensure the power to your heating/cooling system is turned off at the circuit breaker or fuse box before beginning installation.
- Read all instructions carefully before proceeding.
- Gather necessary tools: screwdriver, wire strippers, drill (if needed).
Mounting the Thermostat
- Carefully remove your old thermostat from the wall. Note the wiring connections.
- Separate the new Honeywell thermostat from its wall plate.
- Position the new wall plate on the wall, marking screw locations. Drill pilot holes if necessary.
- Secure the wall plate to the wall using the provided screws.
Wiring
Connect the wires from your system to the corresponding terminals on the thermostat's wall plate. Refer to the labels on your old thermostat's wires and match them to the new terminals. Common terminal designations include:
- R/Rc: 24V AC power (heating/cooling)
- C: Common wire (for continuous power, optional if using batteries)
- G: Fan relay
- Y/Y1: Compressor (cooling)
- W/W1: Heat relay (heating)
- O/B: Reversing valve (heat pumps)
Ensure all connections are secure. After wiring, gently push any excess wire back into the wall opening.

Battery Installation
This thermostat requires two AA alkaline batteries for operation, or as a backup if hardwired. The easy-access battery compartment is located on the front of the unit. Simply flip out the door, insert the batteries according to the polarity markings (+/-), and close the door.
Operation
Display Overview
The large digital display shows the current room temperature, the set temperature, and the current system and fan modes. The display is backlit for improved visibility.
Setting the Temperature
To adjust the desired temperature, use the Up (▲) and Down (▼) arrow buttons located on the right side of the thermostat. Each press will adjust the temperature by one degree Fahrenheit. The display will show the new set temperature temporarily.
Selecting System Mode
Press the 'System' button to cycle through the available operating modes:
- Heat: The system will operate to maintain the set heating temperature.
- Cool: The system will operate to maintain the set cooling temperature.
- Off: The heating and cooling system is turned off.
Selecting Fan Mode
Press the 'Fan' button to cycle through the available fan modes:
- Auto: The fan runs only when the heating or cooling system is actively operating. This is the most common and energy-efficient setting.
- On: The fan runs continuously, regardless of whether the heating or cooling system is active. This can help with air circulation.
Maintenance
Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the two AA alkaline batteries promptly. The easy-access battery compartment allows for replacement without removing the thermostat from the wall. Simply open the battery door, remove old batteries, insert new ones with correct polarity, and close the door.
Cleaning
To clean the thermostat, gently wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish or internal components.
