1. Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the operation and maintenance of your Craig Electronics CMP1400C/E/P Digital MP3 Player. This device features 512MB of built-in flash memory, an SD expansion slot for additional storage, and is compatible with MP3 and WMA audio formats, including Digital Rights Management (DRM9) content. 2. Setup
2.1 Battery Installation
The CMP1400C/E/P requires one (1) AAA alkaline battery (not included) for operation.
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Slide or lift the cover to open the compartment.
- Insert one AAA alkaline battery, ensuring the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals align with the markings inside the compartment.
- Replace the battery compartment cover until it clicks securely into place.
2.2 Connecting to a Computer
Use the supplied USB cable to connect your MP3 player to a computer for transferring audio files.
- Ensure your computer is powered on.
- Connect the smaller end of the USB cable to the USB port on your MP3 player.
- Connect the larger end of the USB cable to an available USB 2.0 port on your computer.
- The device will be recognized as a removable disk drive on your computer.
2.3 Loading Audio Files
The player supports MP3 and WMA audio formats, including files with DRM9 protection.
- Connect the MP3 player to your computer as described in Section 2.2.
- Open the removable disk drive associated with your MP3 player.
- Drag and drop your desired MP3 or WMA audio files from your computer to the player's storage.
- Once files are transferred, safely eject the removable disk drive from your computer before disconnecting the USB cable.
2.4 Inserting an SD Card
The device features an SD expansion slot for additional memory.
- Locate the SD card slot on the side or bottom of the MP3 player.
- Insert a compatible SD card into the slot with the metal contacts facing the correct direction (refer to the diagram on the device if available).
- Gently push the SD card until it clicks into place. To remove, push the card in again until it springs out.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Powering On/Off
- To power on: Press and hold the Power/Play button until the display illuminates.
- To power off: Press and hold the Power/Play button until the display turns off.
3.2 Basic Navigation and Playback
The device features a dot matrix LCD display with a white backlight for navigating menus and viewing track information.
- Play/Pause: Press the Play/Pause button to start or pause playback.
- Next/Previous Track: Use the Forward (>>) or Backward (<<) buttons to skip to the next or previous track.
- Volume Control: Use the Volume Up (+) or Volume Down (-) buttons to adjust the audio level.
- Menu Navigation: Use the navigation buttons (often labeled as Menu, Mode, or directional arrows) to browse through folders, files, and settings on the LCD display.
3.3 Voice Recording
The CMP1400C/E/P includes a built-in microphone for voice recording.
- Navigate to the "Record" or "Voice Memo" function in the device's menu.
- Press the Record button (often the Play/Pause button or a dedicated record button) to start recording.
- Press the Record button again to stop and save the recording.
- Recordings are typically saved in a dedicated folder on the device.
3.4 Equalizer Presets
Customize your audio experience with built-in equalizer presets.
- Access the "Equalizer" or "Sound Settings" option in the device's menu.
- Select from available presets such as Pop, Rock, Jazz, Classical, or Normal to adjust the audio output.
3.5 Connecting Headphones
Connect the included stereo earphones or your preferred 3.5mm headphones to the device.
- Locate the 3.5mm headphone jack on the MP3 player.
- Insert the headphone plug firmly into the jack.
- Adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level.
4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning the Device
- Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the exterior of the MP3 player.
