1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Eton Sound 100 AM/FM Radio. This manual provides essential information for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your device. Please read these instructions carefully before use to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your radio.

The Eton Sound 100 is a tabletop AM/FM radio featuring a digital Phase-Locked-Loop (PLL) tuner, 10 station presets, an alarm with sleep timer, and a 3-inch full-range speaker. It includes an infrared remote control and a 3.5 mm auxiliary input for connecting external audio devices.

2. Setup

2.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure you have the Eton Sound 100 radio, the AC power adapter, and the remote control.

2.2 Power Connection

  1. Locate the AC power adapter.
  2. Insert the adapter's barrel connector into the -12V AC 1A 10W input jack on the back of the radio.
  3. Plug the AC adapter into a standard wall outlet.

The radio is designed for corded electric operation. For backup power during short outages, the unit may retain settings for approximately 30 minutes or more due to a built-in capacitor. For extended power loss, two AA batteries can be inserted into the battery compartment on the back of the unit to maintain time and preset settings.

2.3 Antenna Adjustment

Extend the telescopic antenna located on the back of the radio for optimal FM reception. For AM reception, the radio uses a built-in ferrite bar antenna; repositioning the radio may improve AM signal quality.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Basic Controls

  • POWER Button: Press to turn the radio on or off.
  • VOLUME Knob: Rotate clockwise to increase volume, counter-clockwise to decrease.
  • MODE Button: Press to switch between AM, FM, and AUX input modes.
  • TUNING/SET Knob: Rotate to manually tune radio frequencies. Press to confirm settings in menu modes.
  • TIME SET Button: Used to set the current time.
  • MEMORY Button: Used to save and recall radio station presets.

3.2 Setting the Time

  1. With the radio on or off, press the TIME SET button.
  2. Use the TUNING/SET knob to adjust the hour. Press TUNING/SET to confirm.
  3. Use the TUNING/SET knob to adjust the minute. Press TUNING/SET to confirm.

3.3 Tuning Radio Stations

Manual Tuning:

  1. Press the MODE button to select AM or FM band.
  2. Rotate the TUNING/SET knob to find your desired station.

Auto Tuning:

  1. Press the MODE button to select AM or FM band.
  2. Press and hold the TUNING/SET knob for a few seconds. The radio will scan and stop at the next clear station.

3.4 Saving and Recalling Presets

To Save a Station:

  1. Tune to your desired station.
  2. Press the MEMORY button. The preset number will flash on the display.
  3. Rotate the TUNING/SET knob to select a preset number (1-10).
  4. Press the MEMORY button again to confirm and save the station.

To Recall a Station:

  1. Press the MEMORY button.
  2. Rotate the TUNING/SET knob to cycle through your saved presets. The radio will automatically tune to the selected preset.

3.5 Alarm and Sleep Timer

The radio features an alarm function to wake you to your preferred radio station and volume. A sleep timer allows the radio to turn off automatically after a set period.

  • ALARM Button (on remote): Used to set and activate the alarm.
  • SNOOZE Button (on remote): Temporarily silences the alarm.
  • SLEEP Button (on remote): Activates the sleep timer.

3.6 Using the Auxiliary Input

Connect an external audio device, such as an MP3 player or iPod, to the AUX IN jack on the back of the radio using a 3.5mm audio cable. Press the MODE button until "AUX" is displayed to play audio from the connected device.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

To clean the radio, use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents as they may damage the finish. Ensure the radio is unplugged before cleaning.

4.2 Battery Replacement (Backup)

If using AA batteries for backup, replace them annually or when the radio fails to retain time and preset settings after a power interruption. Ensure correct polarity when inserting new batteries.

5. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Ensure the AC adapter is securely plugged into both the radio and a working wall outlet.
  • Poor Radio Reception: Extend the FM telescopic antenna fully. For AM, try repositioning the radio. Avoid placing the radio near other electronic devices that may cause interference.
  • Display Issues: The LCD display is designed for optimal viewing from a direct angle. Viewing from extreme angles or in very bright conditions may affect readability. The display brightness is fixed.
  • Radio Does Not Turn On Automatically After Power Outage: If the radio loses power and then power is restored, you may need to press the POWER button to turn the unit back on, even if backup batteries are installed.
  • Volume Control Irregularity: If the volume knob exhibits inconsistent response, try using the volume controls on the remote control.
  • No Sound from Auxiliary Input: Ensure the audio cable is fully inserted into both the radio's AUX IN jack and the external device. Verify the radio is in AUX mode and the external device's volume is turned up.
