- Flush the System: Before installing the rotor, briefly flush the system to remove any debris from the pipes that could clog the sprinkler.
- Install the Rotor: Thread the rotor onto the fitting. Ensure it is hand-tightened, then use a wrench for an additional quarter to half turn. Avoid overtightening.
- Backfill: Carefully backfill the soil around the sprinkler, ensuring the top of the rotor is level with the ground.

Operating and Adjustments
The Rain Bird 5000 PLUS Rotor offers easy adjustments for spray direction and distance to ensure precise watering.
Adjusting Spray Direction (Arc Adjustment):
- Identify the Left Stop: With the water on, turn the rotor cap to the right until it stops. This is the rotor's left starting position.
- Set the Left Stop: If the left stop is not in the desired position, turn the entire rotor body to align the left stop with the edge of the area you want to water.
- Adjust the Right Stop: Use a flat-head screwdriver to turn the arc adjustment screw on the top of the rotor. Turning clockwise increases the arc, and counter-clockwise decreases it. The arc can be adjusted from 40° to 360°.
Adjusting Spray Distance:
- To increase or decrease the spray distance (range from 19 to 32 feet), use a flat-head screwdriver to turn the larger screw located on the top of the rotor. Turning it clockwise will decrease the distance, and counter-clockwise will increase it.
Maintenance

- Self-Cleaning: The rotor features a self-cleaning mechanism that flushes debris during pop-down, helping to prevent clogs.
- Filter Cleaning: Periodically check and clean the filter screen located at the base of the sprinkler body. To access, unscrew the top of the sprinkler and carefully pull out the internal assembly. Remove and rinse the filter screen under running water. Reassemble once clean.
- Nozzle Replacement: If the spray pattern is consistently poor or damaged, the nozzle can be replaced. Unscrew the top of the sprinkler, remove the internal assembly, and carefully replace the nozzle. Ensure the correct nozzle type is used for your application.
