4. Setup

1. Unpack Components: Remove all game pieces and the game board from the box. Discard any plastic packaging.
2. Prepare the Board: Unfold the game board and place it on a flat, stable surface between the two players.
3. Organize Pieces: Each player chooses a color (Red for Autobots, Grey for Decepticons). Take all 40 pieces of your chosen color. Keep your pieces hidden from your opponent.
4. Initial Placement: Each player arranges their 40 game pieces on the first four rows of their side of the game board. The rank of each piece should face towards the player, hidden from the opponent. Refer to the game rules for strategic placement guidelines.

5. How to Play

Game Objective

The objective of the Transformer Stratego Game is to capture your opponent's Flag, or to capture so many of your opponent's pieces that they cannot make any more moves.

Basic Gameplay

1. Starting the Game: Players decide who goes first.
2. Moving Pieces: On your turn, you must move one of your pieces one square in any direction (forward, backward, or sideways). Pieces cannot move diagonally. Pieces cannot move onto or through the two "lakes" in the middle of the board.
3. Attacking: If you move your piece onto a square occupied by an opponent's piece, you are attacking. Both players reveal their pieces. The piece with the higher rank captures the lower-ranked piece. If ranks are equal, both pieces are removed from the board.
4. Special Ranks:
   • Spy (Rank 1): Can capture the Marshal (Rank 10) if the Spy attacks first. If the Marshal attacks the Spy, the Spy is captured.
   • Miners (Rank 3): Can defuse Bombs.
   • Bombs (B): Cannot move. If any piece (except a Miner) attacks a Bomb, the attacking piece is captured, and the Bomb remains on the board.
   • Flag (F): Cannot move. If captured, the game ends, and the player whose Flag was captured loses.
5. Special Powers: Refer to the included "Autobots' Special Powers" and "Decepticons' Special Powers" reference sheets for unique abilities of certain Transformer characters. These powers introduce strategic variations to the classic Stratego rules.

Ending the Game

The game ends when one player captures the opponent's Flag, or when one player has no movable pieces left on the board.
