Setup and Installation

Tools and Parts Required (Not Included)

Installation Steps

  1. Turn off Water Supply: Locate and close the main cold water supply valve to your home or specifically to the water heater.
  2. Drain Water Lines: Open a hot water faucet in your home to relieve pressure and drain water from the lines.
  3. Cut Pipe: Using a pipe cutter, cut into the cold water supply line at the desired installation point. Ensure there is enough space for the AP430SS unit and any necessary fittings.
  4. Install Shut-off Valves: Install shut-off valves on both sides of where the AP430SS system will be placed. This allows for easy isolation during maintenance.
  5. Assemble Fittings: Apply PTFE tape to all threaded connections. Assemble the necessary ¾-inch NPT fittings and adapters to connect the AP430SS system to your plumbing.
  6. Install AP430SS Head: Securely attach the system head to the prepared plumbing. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
  7. Insert Cartridge: Carefully screw the AP431 replacement cartridge into the system head. Hand-tighten only.
  8. Restore Water Supply: Slowly open the main cold water supply valve. Check for any leaks around the newly installed system.
  9. Flush System: Allow water to run through a hot water faucet for several minutes to flush out any air or loose polyphosphate particles.

Maintenance

Regular cartridge replacement is essential for the optimal performance of your 3M Aqua-Pure AP430SS system.

Cartridge Replacement

The 3M Aqua-Pure AP431 replacement cartridge should be changed every 6 months, or sooner if you observe a noticeable reduction in water flow rate or a return of scale-related issues.

  1. Turn off Water Supply: Close the shut-off valves on both sides of the AP430SS system to isolate it from the water supply.
  2. Relieve Pressure: Open a nearby hot water faucet to relieve any residual pressure in the system.
  3. Remove Old Cartridge: Unscrew the old AP431 cartridge from the system head by hand. Dispose of the used cartridge responsibly.
  4. Install New Cartridge: Remove the new AP431 cartridge from its packaging. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated. Screw the new cartridge into the system head until hand-tight. Do not overtighten.
  5. Restore Water Supply: Slowly open the shut-off valves to restore water flow to the system. Check for leaks.
  6. Flush System: Run a hot water faucet for several minutes to flush out any air and ensure proper operation.

Troubleshooting
