Setup and First Use

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials and promotional labels from the pressure cooker.
  2. Cleaning: Before first use, wash the nonstick cooking pot and the trivet in warm, soapy water. The cooking pot and trivet are dishwasher safe. Wipe the exterior of the unit with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the main unit in water.
  3. Assembly: Place the nonstick cooking pot inside the main unit. Ensure the lid is properly aligned and locked into place by turning it counter-clockwise until it clicks securely. The cooker will not build pressure if the lid is not fully locked.
  4. Placement: Place the pressure cooker on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface away from walls and cabinets to allow for proper ventilation during operation.
  5. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into the designated port on the unit, then into a standard electrical outlet. The LED display will illuminate.

Operating Instructions

Cooking Functions:

  • Low Pressure: For delicate foods.
  • High Pressure: For faster cooking of most foods.
  • Browning: Allows cooking over high heat without the lid to sear meats and vegetables, creating a flavorful exterior.
  • Sauté: Used prior to pressure cooking with the lid removed to quickly soften vegetables or cook items like rice for pilafs and risottos.
  • Simmer: Cooks liquids at a lower temperature, ideal for finishing dishes or adjusting texture.
  • Keep Warm: Automatically holds cooked food warm for up to 12 hours after cooking is complete. The unit will beep and the Keep Warm light will turn on.

Effortless Cooking Steps:

  1. With the unit on and the LED displayed, press the MENU button to select the desired cooking function. The function light will flash.
  2. Select either Low or High Pressure setting if pressure cooking.
  3. Press TIME to select the number of minutes needed for cooking. Time increases in 1-minute increments up to 40 minutes, and in 5-minute increments from 40 to 99 minutes.
  4. Press START/CANCEL to begin cooking. The pressure cooker will start to heat. The red float will rise as pressure builds. Once the selected pressure level is reached, the light in the lower right-hand corner of the LED will stop flashing and remain lit. At this point, pressure cooking begins, and the timer will start to count down. The timer will not begin countdown until full pressure is achieved.

Pressure Release Methods

After pressure cooking is complete, it is crucial to release the pressure before opening the lid. There are two primary methods:

  • Natural Pressure Release (NPR): Allow the pressure to dissipate naturally. This method is recommended for foods that benefit from continued cooking or for foamy foods like beans and grains. The pressure will gradually decrease, and the float valve will drop on its own. Do not attempt to open the lid until the float valve has fully dropped.
  • Quick Pressure Release (QPR): For immediate pressure release, carefully move the pressure valve to the "venting" position. Steam will rapidly escape. Use caution to avoid steam burns. This method is suitable for delicate foods that can overcook quickly. Ensure the float valve has dropped before attempting to open the lid.

The specially designed lid ensures that it cannot be opened until the internal pressure is completely released, providing a crucial safety feature.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Cuisinart Electric Pressure Cooker.

  • Inner Pot and Trivet: The nonstick cooking pot and trivet are dishwasher safe for convenient cleaning. For hand washing, use warm, soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge.
  • Lid: The lid should be cleaned regularly. Remove the sealing gasket and float valve for thorough cleaning. Wash them in warm, soapy water. Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling.
  • Sealing Gasket: To prevent wear and tear and maintain proper sealing, do not store the pressure cooker with the lid tightly sealed. Store the lid inverted or slightly ajar.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the main unit with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the unit in water or use abrasive cleaners.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Cooker not building pressure.Lid not properly sealed or locked; insufficient liquid; sealing gasket not correctly placed or damaged.Ensure lid is fully locked (turn counter-clockwise until it clicks). Check liquid level (minimum required for pressure). Inspect and properly seat the sealing gasket; replace if damaged.
Steam leaking from lid.Sealing gasket dirty, damaged, or improperly installed; food debris on rim; pressure release valve not closed.Clean or replace sealing gasket. Ensure rim is clean. Confirm pressure release valve is in the sealed position.
Food is undercooked.Insufficient cooking time; pressure not fully reached or maintained.Increase cooking time. Ensure proper pressure is achieved and maintained throughout cooking cycle.
Lid is stuck after cooking.Pressure still inside the cooker.Do not force open. Allow pressure to release naturally or use Quick Pressure Release method until float valve drops completely.

Recipe Tips and Hints

  • Many family favorites, including soups, stews, and side dishes, can be easily adapted for your Cuisinart Electric Pressure Cooker.
  • The amount of liquid required for pressure cooking is significantly less than for traditional cooking methods.
  • Never exceed the Maximum Fill Amount indicated on the pressure cooker.
  • Always ensure the lid is firmly and tightly secured, turned as far counterclockwise as possible for proper locking.
  • Hot foods and liquids will reach pressure more quickly than cold ones.
  • For Quick Pressure Release, initiate it immediately upon cooking completion to prevent overcooking.
  • Do not store the pressure cooker with the lid on tightly; this helps preserve the sealing gasket.
  • Pressure cooking preserves more nutrients compared to traditional methods due to less liquid usage and reduced evaporation.
  • When adapting your own recipes, refer to the included recipe book or cooking charts as a guide. Generally, cooking time will be 1/3 to 1/2 of traditional cooking time. Reduce liquid by at least half. Consider adding delicate vegetables towards the end of cooking to prevent overcooking.
