This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use of your Canon PowerShot A460 digital camera. The PowerShot A460 features a 5.0-megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom, and a 2.0-inch LCD display, designed for ease of use and high-quality imaging.
1. Setup
1.1 Unpacking the Camera
Verify that all items listed below are included in the package:
- Canon PowerShot A460 Camera Body
- AA-size alkaline batteries (x 2)
- MultiMediaCard (MMC-16M)
- Wrist strap (WS-800)
- Digital Camera Solution CD-ROM
- USB interface cable (IFC-400PCU)
- AV cable (AVC-DC300)

1.2 Battery Installation
- Open the battery compartment cover located on the side or bottom of the camera.
- Insert two AA-size alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
Note: The camera uses readily available AA-size batteries. For optimal performance and environmental considerations, rechargeable NiMH batteries are recommended.
1.3 Memory Card Installation
- Open the memory card slot cover. This is often located near the battery compartment.
- Insert the MultiMediaCard (MMC) or a compatible SD/SDHC card into the slot with the label facing the correct direction until it clicks into place.
- Close the memory card slot cover securely.
Note: A 16MB MMC card is included. The camera supports SD, SDHC, and MMC memory cards up to 32 GB.
1.4 Initial Power On
Press the power button to turn on the camera. The lens will extend, and the LCD screen will activate. If this is the first time powering on, you may be prompted to set the date and time.

2.2 Basic Shooting
- Turn On: Press the POWER button.
- Select Mode: Rotate the Mode Dial to your desired shooting mode (e.g., AUTO for general photography).
- Frame Your Shot: Use the 2.0-inch LCD monitor or the optical viewfinder to compose your image.
- Zoom: Use the zoom controls (often integrated with directional buttons) to adjust the 4x optical zoom.
- Focus: Press the shutter button halfway down to focus. The camera will confirm focus.
- Capture: Press the shutter button fully to take the picture.

- Auto: The camera automatically sets all parameters for general shooting.

- DIGIC II Image Processor: Enhances processing speed, autofocus, playback, and image quality with vibrant colors.
- iSAPS Technology: Canon's scene-recognition technology that works with DIGIC II to improve focus speed, accuracy, exposure, and white balance.

3. Maintenance
