Waterwise Waterwise 4000

Waterwise 4000 Countertop Water Distiller System

User Instruction Manual

Introduction

The Waterwise 4000 is a compact and versatile countertop water distiller system designed to provide fresh, pure distilled water for home and office use. This system requires no installation or hookups, making it a convenient solution for producing high-quality water. Simply fill the stainless steel boiler with tap water, press the start button, and the distillation process begins. The system produces approximately one gallon of distilled water in about four hours, collected in a durable glass bottle.

Safety Information

WARNING: BOILING WATER INSIDE. HOT SURFACES. AVOID CONTACT.

  • Always place the distiller on a stable, level, and heat-resistant surface.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit during operation to dissipate heat.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces during or immediately after operation. Use handles and allow the unit to cool before handling.
  • Keep the distiller out of reach of children and pets.
  • Do not immerse the main unit in water or any other liquid.
  • Unplug the unit from the power outlet before cleaning or when not in use.
  • Do not operate the distiller with a damaged cord or plug, or if the unit malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner.

Components

  • Distiller Unit: The main body containing the stainless steel boiling chamber and heating element.
  • Lid: Covers the boiling chamber and directs steam to the condenser.
  • Glass Collector Bottle: 1-gallon Borosilicate glass bottle for collecting distilled water.
  • Carbon Post-Filter: Improves the taste of the distilled water.
  • Power Cord: Connects the unit to an electrical outlet.

Setup

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
  2. Placement: Place the distiller unit on a flat, stable, and heat-resistant countertop or surface. Ensure there is at least 6 inches of clear space around all sides of the unit for proper ventilation.
  3. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the glass collector bottle and its lid with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly. Wipe the interior of the boiling chamber with a damp cloth.
  4. Insert Carbon Filter: If your model includes a carbon post-filter, insert it into the designated area within the collector bottle's lid or spout, following the instructions provided with the filter.
  5. Position Collector Bottle: Place the empty glass collector bottle directly beneath the distiller's water dispensing spout.
  6. Connect Power: Plug the power cord into a standard 120 Volt, 60 Hz AC electrical outlet.

Operating Instructions

  1. Fill the Boiling Chamber: Remove the lid from the distiller unit. Fill the stainless steel boiling chamber with tap water up to the maximum fill line indicated inside the chamber. Do not overfill.
  2. Secure the Lid: Place the lid back onto the distiller unit, ensuring it is seated correctly and securely.
  3. Position Collector: Verify that the glass collector bottle is properly positioned under the dispensing spout.
  4. Start Distillation: Press the 'Start' button or flip the power switch to the 'ON' position. A red indicator light will illuminate, signifying that the unit is operating.
  5. Distillation Process: The unit will begin heating the water to boiling, producing steam that condenses into pure distilled water. This process typically takes about 4 hours to produce one gallon.
  6. Automatic Shut-Off: The Waterwise 4000 features an automatic shut-off function. Once the water in the boiling chamber has been fully distilled, the unit will automatically turn off.
  7. Cool Down: After the cycle is complete and the unit has shut off, allow the distiller to cool down for at least 30 minutes before attempting to remove the lid or clean the unit. The boiling chamber and lid will be very hot.
  8. Enjoy: Once cooled, carefully remove the collector bottle and enjoy your freshly distilled water.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning is essential to maintain the performance and longevity of your Waterwise 4000 distiller.

Daily Cleaning

  • After each use, once the unit has cooled, empty any remaining residue from the boiling chamber.
  • Rinse the stainless steel boiling chamber with clean water.
  • Wash the glass collector bottle and its lid with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly.

Descaling (Mineral Buildup Removal)

Over time, mineral deposits from tap water will accumulate in the boiling chamber. Descaling is necessary to ensure efficient operation.

  1. Prepare Solution: Fill the boiling chamber with a solution of white vinegar (approximately 1 cup) and water, ensuring the mineral deposits are covered. For heavy buildup, use a stronger vinegar solution or a specialized descaling agent (e.g., Kleenwise powder) according to its instructions.
  2. Soak: Allow the solution to soak in the boiling chamber for several hours or overnight, depending on the severity of the buildup.
  3. Scrub: Use a soft brush or sponge to gently scrub away loosened mineral deposits. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal brushes that could scratch the stainless steel.
  4. Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the boiling chamber multiple times with clean water to remove all traces of the cleaning solution and loosened minerals.

Carbon Post-Filter Replacement

The carbon post-filter should be replaced periodically, typically every 2-3 months or after 60-80 gallons of distilled water, to maintain optimal water taste. Refer to the filter packaging for specific replacement guidelines.

Troubleshooting

  • Unit Not Turning On:
        - Check if the power cord is securely plugged into both the unit and a working electrical outlet.
        - Ensure the power switch is in the 'ON' position.
  • No Water Being Produced:
        - Verify that the boiling chamber was filled with water.
        - Ensure the lid is properly seated on the distiller unit.
        - Check if the unit is receiving power (indicator light should be on).
  • Unusual Taste or Odor in Distilled Water:
        - Replace the carbon post-filter. Old filters can impart off-flavors.
        - Thoroughly clean the boiling chamber and collector bottle to remove any residue or buildup.
  • Excessive Heat in the Room:
        - Ensure the distiller is placed in a well-ventilated area. Avoid enclosed spaces.
        - Consider operating the unit in a room with air conditioning or good airflow, especially in warmer climates.
  • Slow Distillation Process:
        - Mineral buildup in the boiling chamber can reduce efficiency. Perform a descaling cleaning.
