Setup

1. Choosing a Location

Select a location that is easily accessible for refilling and cleaning, yet safe for birds. Consider a spot visible from a window for birdwatching.

2. Mounting the Feeder

The Perky-Pet 102 feeder can be hung or pole mounted. It features a built-in metal hanging loop for easy suspension.

• Hanging: Use a sturdy hook or branch. Ensure the feeder is at least 18 inches away from any surface (walls, fences, tree trunks) to minimize squirrel access.
• Pole Mounting: Attach the feeder to a pole using appropriate mounting hardware (not included). Ensure the pole is stable and the feeder is at least 18 inches from any climbing points.

Operating Instructions

1. Filling the Feeder

1. Unscrew and remove the top lid of the feeder. The lid features a twist-lock mechanism to secure it.

2. Pour up to 4 pounds of your preferred wild bird seed into the clear plastic seed tube. The clear design allows for easy monitoring of seed levels.

3. Replace the lid and twist it securely to lock it in place.

2. Bird Feeding

The feeder features 12 feeding ports with wraparound wire perches, allowing multiple birds to feed comfortably at once.

Maintenance

Regular cleaning is crucial for the health of visiting birds and the longevity of your feeder.

1. Frequency: Clean your feeder once every two weeks, or more frequently during periods of high use or wet weather.
2. Cleaning Process:
   • Empty any remaining seed.
   • Disassemble the feeder by removing the lid. The clear plastic seed tube can be removed from the metal cage for thorough cleaning.
   • Wash all parts with a mild soap and water solution. Use a brush to remove any stubborn residue.
   • Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all soap residue.
   • Allow all parts to dry completely before reassembling and refilling with fresh seed.

Troubleshooting

• Problem: Squirrels are accessing the feeder.

  Solution: Ensure the feeder is hung at least 18 inches away from any surfaces (walls, branches, fences) that squirrels can use to jump onto the feeder. Consider adding a squirrel baffle above the feeder if hanging from a pole or branch.

• Problem: Seed is not flowing correctly.

  Solution: Check for clogs in the feeding ports. Ensure the seed is dry and free of debris. Clean the feeder thoroughly if blockages persist.
• Problem: Birds are not visiting the feeder.

  Solution: Ensure the feeder is in a safe, visible location. Try different types of bird seed to attract a wider variety of birds. Keep the feeder clean and filled with fresh seed.
