Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the safe and effective use of the PACER Pumps HPN 2A Hand Dispensing Drum Pump. This pump is designed for manual transfer of various liquids from drums and barrels, eliminating the need for powered equipment in remote locations. It is suitable for low to medium volumes of water, oils, lubricants, and mild chemistries.
Safety Information
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and eye protection when handling chemicals.
- Ensure the drum or barrel is stable and secured before operating the pump.
- Do not use the pump with highly corrosive, flammable, or volatile liquids unless specifically rated for such use. Refer to the chemical compatibility chart for your specific liquid.
- Keep children and unauthorized personnel away from the pump during operation.
- Clean the pump thoroughly after each use, especially when switching between different types of liquids, to prevent contamination or material degradation.
- Dispose of waste liquids and cleaning materials according to local regulations.
Package Contents
The PACER Pumps HPN 2A Hand Dispensing Drum Pump package includes the following components:
- Pump body
- Assorted valves and valve seals
- O-ring and piston ring
- Pump handle
- 8-foot nitrile hose
- Polyester suction tube
Setup Instructions
- Unpack Components: Carefully remove all components from the packaging and inspect for any damage.
- Assemble Suction Tube: Connect the polyester suction tube to the inlet of the pump body. Ensure a tight and secure fit to prevent air leaks.
- Attach Handle: Securely attach the pump handle to the pump body.
- Connect Hose: Attach the 8-foot nitrile hose to the outlet of the pump body. Ensure the hose clamp (if provided) is tightened to prevent leaks during operation.
- Install on Drum: Insert the assembled pump and suction tube into the drum or barrel opening. Ensure the pump is seated firmly and the suction tube reaches near the bottom of the drum for optimal liquid extraction.

Operating Instructions
- Prepare for Dispensing: Position the receiving container below the outlet of the hose. Ensure the hose is directed into the container to prevent spills.
- Prime the Pump: If the pump is new or has been dry, it may require priming. Operate the handle a few times until liquid begins to flow consistently.
- Dispense Liquid: Operate the pump handle with a steady, rhythmic motion. Each stroke will draw liquid from the drum and dispense it through the hose.
- Monitor Flow: Observe the flow rate and the level in the receiving container to prevent overfilling.
- Stop Dispensing: Cease operating the pump handle once the desired amount of liquid has been dispensed or the drum is empty. Allow any remaining liquid in the hose to drain into the receiving container.
- Post-Operation: Remove the hose from the receiving container and secure it to prevent accidental drips.
The HPN 2A pump is designed to handle liquids with viscosity up to 2,000 SSU. It is suitable for petroleum products such as diesel fuel, as well as water, oils, lubricants, and mild chemistries. Always verify chemical compatibility before use.
Maintenance
- Regular Cleaning: After each use, especially when dispensing different liquids, flush the pump with a compatible cleaning agent or water to prevent residue buildup and cross-contamination.
- Inspect Seals and O-rings: Periodically check the valve seals, O-rings, and piston ring for wear, cracks, or damage. Replace any worn components to maintain pump efficiency and prevent leaks.
- Hose Inspection: Examine the nitrile hose for any signs of damage, kinks, or blockages. Replace the hose if it shows signs of degradation.
- Storage: Store the pump in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
- No Flow or Slow Flow:
- Check if the suction tube is fully submerged in the liquid.
- Inspect for air leaks in connections (suction tube, hose, pump body). Tighten all connections.
- Verify that the valves are not clogged or stuck. Clean if necessary.
- Ensure the liquid viscosity is within the pump's operating limits (up to 2,000 SSU).
- Leaks from Pump Body or Connections:
- Check all connections for tightness.
- Inspect O-rings and seals for damage or improper seating. Replace if necessary.
- Difficulty Operating Handle:
- Ensure the pump is clean and free of debris.
- Check for any mechanical obstructions.
