1. Introduction
The BOSS TU-2 Chromatic Tuner Pedal integrates BOSS' renowned TU-Series tuner technology into a compact stompbox design. This manual provides essential information for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your TU-2 pedal, ensuring accurate tuning for both guitar and bass instruments.

2. Setup
2.1 Power Supply
The TU-2 can be powered by a 9V battery or an optional AC adapter (PSA series). A 9V battery is typically included with the unit.
- Battery Installation: To install or replace the 9V battery, loosen the thumbscrew on the front of the pedal and open the pedal unit. Connect the battery to the snap connector and place it inside the battery compartment. Close the pedal unit and secure the thumbscrew.
- AC Adapter: For extended use, connect a 9V DC (center negative) AC adapter to the DC IN jack. The TU-2 can also supply power to other BOSS compact pedals via an optional daisy-chain cable.

2.2 Connections
Connect your instrument and amplifier to the TU-2 using standard 1/4-inch instrument cables.
- INPUT Jack: Connect your guitar or bass to this jack.
- OUTPUT Jack: Connect this jack to your amplifier or other effects pedals.
- BYPASS Jack: Use this jack to send an un-muted signal to another device, even when the tuner is active. This is useful for silent tuning while maintaining a signal to a separate monitor or recording device.

3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Basic Tuning Operation
- Connect your instrument to the INPUT jack and your amplifier to the OUTPUT jack.
- Press the pedal's footswitch to activate the tuner. The display will illuminate.
- Strum a single string on your instrument. The 7-segment LED display will show the note name, and the 11-point LED indicators will show the tuning discrepancy.
- Adjust your instrument's tuning pegs until the central '0' LED indicator lights up, and the 'stream' meter LEDs stop moving or move very slowly towards the center.
- Press the footswitch again to bypass the tuner and send the signal to your amplifier.
3.2 Tuning Modes
The TU-2 offers seven tuning modes, selectable via the MODE button:
- Chromatic: For general tuning of any instrument.
- Guitar Regular: Standard guitar tuning (E, A, D, G, B, E).
- Guitar Flat: Guitar tuning with one flat (Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, Eb).
- Guitar Double Flat: Guitar tuning with two flats (D, G, C, F, A, D).
- Bass Regular: Standard bass tuning (E, A, D, G).
- Bass Flat: Bass tuning with one flat (Eb, Ab, Db, Gb).
- Bass Double Flat: Bass tuning with two flats (D, G, C, F).
3.3 Reference Pitch Adjustment
The reference pitch (A4) can be adjusted from 438 Hz to 445 Hz. To change the reference pitch, press the PITCH button and use the up/down arrows to select the desired frequency. The selected pitch setting is stored in memory.

4. Maintenance
4.1 Battery Replacement
When the CHECK indicator dims or the tuning display becomes erratic, it is time to replace the 9V battery. Follow the steps outlined in Section 2.1 for battery installation.
4.2 Cleaning
Wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents, as these can damage the finish.
4.3 Storage
If the unit will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage and potential damage. Store the pedal in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
5. Troubleshooting
- No Power: Ensure the 9V battery is correctly installed and not depleted, or that the AC adapter is properly connected and functioning.
- No Sound (when tuner is off): Check all cable connections. Ensure the OUTPUT jack is connected to your amplifier.
- Inaccurate Tuning: Verify that the correct tuning mode (Chromatic, Guitar, Bass) is selected. Ensure your instrument's pickups are clean and functioning correctly. Avoid excessive background noise during tuning.
- Display Issues: If the display is dim or flickering, replace the battery. If using an AC adapter, try a different power source or adapter.
