3. Installation Instructions

Follow these steps to replace the humidifier wicks in your compatible Vornado unit.

  1. Prepare the Humidifier: Ensure the humidifier is unplugged from the power outlet. Remove the water tanks from the unit and empty any remaining water.
  2. Access the Wick Compartment: Carefully lift and remove the top cover of the humidifier to expose the wick compartment.
  3. Remove Old Wicks: Gently pull out the old, used wicks from their slots. Dispose of them properly.
  4. Clean the Tray (Recommended): Clean the bottom tray of the humidifier to remove any mineral buildup or residue. This helps maintain efficiency and hygiene.
  5. Insert New Wicks: Take a new Vornado MD1-0002 replacement wick. Fold it as necessary to fit into the designated slots in the humidifier's base. Ensure the wick is pushed down as far as possible to make proper contact with the water.

4. Operating Instructions

Once the new wicks are installed and the humidifier is reassembled and filled, it is ready for operation. The wicks will absorb water from the reservoir and allow it to evaporate into the air, increasing humidity.

Important Considerations:

  • Initial Saturation: Allow a few minutes for the new wicks to fully saturate with water before expecting full humidification output.
  • Water Level: Monitor the water level in the tanks. If water is not being absorbed or the tanks are not emptying as expected, check the wicks for proper seating and saturation.
  • Humidity Output: The rate of humidification depends on the fan speed setting of your Vornado unit and the ambient humidity levels.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance of your Vornado MD1-0002 replacement wicks is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of your humidifier.

Wick Replacement Schedule:

  • Replace wicks every 4-8 weeks, or as needed, depending on usage and water quality. Hard water may necessitate more frequent replacement.
  • Signs that wicks need replacement include hardening, discoloration, or a decrease in humidifier output.

Cleaning Tips:

  • While these wicks are disposable and generally do not require cleaning, some users find that soaking them in a solution of water and white vinegar can help reduce mineral buildup and extend their life slightly.
  • Always ensure the humidifier's water reservoir and base are cleaned regularly to prevent mold and bacteria growth.

6. Troubleshooting

Low Humidity Output:

  • Check Water Level: Ensure water tanks are full and properly seated.
  • Wick Saturation: Verify that the wicks are fully saturated and making contact with the water in the base. New wicks may take time to fully absorb water.
  • Wick Condition: Inspect wicks for hardening, mineral buildup, or discoloration. Replace if necessary.

Unpleasant Odor:

  • Clean Unit: Thoroughly clean the humidifier's water tanks and base to remove any stagnant water or bacterial growth.
  • Replace Wicks: Old wicks can develop odors. Replace them with new ones.

Water Not Draining from Tanks:

  • This indicates the wicks are not absorbing water effectively. Check for mineral buildup on the wicks or ensure they are properly installed and making contact with the water. Replace wicks if hardened.
