Setup and Installation

Mounting to Bicycle Frame (Optional)

  1. Identify Mounting Location: Choose a suitable location on your bicycle frame, typically near the water bottle cage mounts.
  2. Attach Bracket: Use the provided mounting bracket and screws to secure it to the frame. Ensure it is firmly attached.
  3. Secure Pump: Place the Mountain Morph Pump into the bracket and secure it with the rubber strap or latch mechanism provided with the bracket.

Initial Inspection

  • Inspect the pump for any visible damage from shipping.
  • Ensure the flexible hose is securely attached to the pump body.
  • Familiarize yourself with the valve head and its compatibility with Presta and Schrader valves.

Operating Instructions

Preparing for Inflation

  1. Unfold Pump: Extend the handle and unfold the footrest until it locks into position. This provides stability during pumping.
  2. Prepare Tire Valve:
    • Presta Valve: Unscrew the valve cap and then unscrew the small knurled nut at the top of the valve stem. Press down briefly to release a small amount of air, ensuring the valve is open.
    • Schrader Valve: Unscrew the valve cap. No further action is typically needed.

Connecting to Valve

  1. Identify Valve Head: The pump head is designed to work with both valve types. Refer to the markings on the pump head for the correct orientation for Presta or Schrader.
  2. Attach Pump Head: Firmly push the pump head onto the tire valve. For some pump heads, you may need to flip a lever to lock it in place. Ensure a tight seal to prevent air leakage.

Inflating the Tire

  1. Position: Place the pump on a stable surface with the footrest on the ground. Hold the handle firmly.
  2. Pump: Push the handle down smoothly and pull it up completely to draw air into the pump. Repeat this motion until the desired tire pressure is reached.
  3. Monitor Pressure: If your pump includes a pressure gauge, monitor the pressure during inflation. Do not exceed the maximum recommended pressure for your tire, which is usually printed on the tire sidewall.

Disconnecting the Pump

  1. Release Lever (if applicable): If your pump head has a locking lever, flip it to the open position.
  2. Remove Head: Quickly and firmly pull the pump head straight off the valve stem.
  3. Secure Valve:
    • Presta Valve: Screw the knurled nut down finger-tight and replace the valve cap.
    • Schrader Valve: Replace the valve cap.
  4. Fold Pump: Fold the footrest and retract the handle for compact storage.

Maintenance

Cleaning

  • Wipe down the pump exterior with a damp cloth after use, especially if it has been exposed to dirt or mud.
  • Ensure the valve head is free of debris.

Lubrication

  • Periodically apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the pump's plunger shaft to maintain smooth operation. Avoid petroleum-based lubricants as they can damage seals.

Storage

  • Store the pump in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • If mounted on a bicycle, ensure it is securely fastened to prevent loss or damage during rides.

Troubleshooting

  • Pump not inflating tire:
    • Check if the pump head is securely attached and sealed to the valve.
    • Ensure the Presta valve nut is unscrewed and the valve is open.
    • Inspect the pump's internal seals for wear or damage.
  • Air leaking from pump head:
    • Ensure the pump head is fully engaged and the locking lever (if present) is closed.
    • Check the rubber gasket inside the pump head for damage or debris.
  • Difficulty pumping:
    • Lubricate the plunger shaft as described in the Maintenance section.
    • Ensure no foreign objects are obstructing the pump's air intake or output.
