Dare Products DE 2400 Electric Fence Energizer User Manual

Model: DE 2400

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Dare Products DE 2400 Electric Fence Energizer. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective installation, operation, and maintenance of your energizer. Please read these instructions thoroughly before use and retain them for future reference.

The DE 2400 is a low impedance, 110V plug-in electric fence energizer designed to control livestock across areas up to 600 acres. It delivers a powerful 6 joule output, ensuring effective containment even on fences with moderate vegetation.

2. Important Safety Information

WARNING: Risk of electric shock. Read all user and installation instructions carefully before operating this energizer.

  • Always disconnect the energizer from the power supply before handling or servicing the fence or energizer.
  • Do not install the energizer in wet or damp locations unless specifically rated for outdoor use and protected from direct moisture.
  • Ensure proper grounding of the energizer as described in the installation section. Inadequate grounding can reduce effectiveness and pose a safety risk.
  • Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the electric fence. Post warning signs on the fence where appropriate.
  • Do not connect more than one energizer to the same fence system.
  • Avoid touching the electric fence with your head, neck, or torso. Do not climb over, through, or under a multi-wire electric fence.
  • Do not connect the energizer to any other device or appliance.
  • Use only the power adapter supplied with the energizer.
  • Inspect the power cord and energizer casing regularly for damage. Do not use if damaged.

3. Installation

3.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove the energizer from its packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage during transit. If damage is found, contact your supplier immediately.

3.2 Mounting the Energizer

Mount the energizer in a sheltered, dry location, protected from direct sunlight and rain. It should be easily accessible for operation and maintenance. Use appropriate fasteners to secure the energizer to a wall or post. Ensure it is mounted vertically with terminals facing downwards to prevent moisture ingress.

3.3 Grounding System Installation

A proper grounding system is critical for the effective operation of your electric fence and for safety. Install at least three 6-foot (1.8m) galvanized ground rods, spaced at least 10 feet (3m) apart, in a moist area if possible. Connect these ground rods together using galvanized wire and connect the last ground rod to the energizer's ground terminal (typically marked GROUND or GND).

  • Drive ground rods fully into the earth.
  • Use appropriate clamps to secure ground wire connections to the rods.
  • Ensure all connections are tight and corrosion-free.

3.4 Connecting to the Fence

Connect the electric fence line to the energizer's fence terminal (typically marked FENCE or OUTPUT). Use insulated high-voltage lead-out wire for this connection to prevent energy loss. Ensure all fence connections are secure and insulated from posts and other non-electrified components.

3.5 Power Connection

Once the energizer is mounted and the ground and fence connections are made, plug the energizer's power cord into a standard 110V AC outlet. Ensure the outlet is properly grounded and protected by a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) if required by local electrical codes.

4. Operation

4.1 Powering On

After plugging in the energizer, the red indicator light on the front panel (visible in Figure 2) should begin to flash, indicating that the energizer is operating and sending pulses to the fence line. If the light does not flash, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

4.2 Checking Fence Performance

Regularly check the voltage on your fence line using an electric fence tester. A strong, consistent pulse indicates proper operation. Walk the fence line periodically to check for shorts caused by vegetation, broken insulators, or damaged wires.

5. Maintenance

  • Keep Connections Clean: Periodically inspect all connections (power, ground, fence) for corrosion. Clean terminals with a wire brush if necessary to ensure good electrical contact.
  • Clear Vegetation: Keep the fence line clear of weeds, grass, and branches that can short out the fence and reduce its effectiveness.
  • Check Grounding: Ensure ground rods remain firmly in the soil and connections are secure.
  • Inspect Fence Line: Regularly check for broken wires, damaged insulators, or loose connections along the entire fence.
  • Energizer Casing: Keep the energizer casing clean and free of dust and debris. Do not use harsh chemicals for cleaning.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Energizer indicator light not flashing. No power to energizer; faulty outlet; internal fault.Check power outlet with another appliance. Ensure power cord is fully plugged in. If still no light, contact customer support.
Low or no voltage on fence line.Poor grounding; fence shorted; energizer fault.Check grounding system. Inspect fence for shorts (vegetation, broken insulators, wire contact with posts). Disconnect fence from energizer; if energizer light flashes normally, the fault is on the fence line.
Animals not respecting the fence.Low voltage; animals not trained; fence too weak.Check fence voltage. Ensure animals are properly introduced to the fence. Address any shorts or grounding issues.
