La Crosse Technology 16-inch Metal Atomic Wall Clock (WT-3161WH) Instruction Manual
Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your La Crosse Technology 16-inch Metal Atomic Wall Clock, model WT-3161WH. This 16-inch self-setting, radio-controlled analog clock automatically sets to the exact time and maintains accuracy to the second. It features four time zone settings and automatically updates for Daylight Saving Time (with an on/off option). Operating this wall clock is straightforward. Simply insert one AA alkaline battery. The clock also includes a convenient extra battery compartment for two additional AA batteries to extend its power up to 5 years. Its solid metal construction, 2-inch deep frame, and white dial offer a simple style suitable for various rooms.
Setup
1. Battery Installation
The clock requires one AA alkaline battery for operation. For extended battery life, up to 5 years, you may insert two additional AA batteries into the designated compartment.
Locate the battery compartment on the back of the clock.
Insert one fresh AA alkaline battery, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
Optionally, insert two additional AA batteries into the extra compartments for extended power.

2. Initial Time Setting and Time Zone Selection
After battery installation, the clock hands will automatically spin to the 12:00 position to begin searching for the WWVB atomic time signal. Once the signal is received, you will need to select your time zone.
Allow the clock to attempt to receive the atomic time signal. This process can take several minutes to several nights, depending on reception conditions.
Once the clock has set itself, locate the Time Zone button/switch on the back of the clock.
Select your desired time zone: P (Pacific), M (Mountain), C (Central), or E (Eastern).
3. Daylight Saving Time (DST) Setting
The clock can automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time.
Locate the Daylight Saving switch on the back of the clock.
Set the switch to ON to enable automatic DST adjustments.
Set the switch to OFF if you prefer to disable automatic DST adjustments.

4. Mounting
The clock is designed for wall mounting.
Select a suitable location on a wall for mounting.
Use a screw or nail appropriate for your wall type.
Hang the clock using the integrated hanging hole on the back.
Operating
1. Atomic Time Synchronization
Your La Crosse Technology clock is a radio-controlled device that receives time signals from the WWVB station located in Fort Collins, Colorado. This ensures precise timekeeping.
The clock automatically attempts to synchronize with the atomic time signal.
Reception is typically strongest during evening hours. For best results, position the clock facing towards or away from Fort Collins, Colorado.
Environmental factors such as atmospheric conditions or electromagnetic interference can affect signal reception. It may take up to 5 nights for the clock to successfully set itself.
Once an atomic time signal is received, it will override any manually set time.
2. Manual Time Setting (Optional)
If the atomic signal is unavailable or you wish to set the time manually, follow these steps:
Locate the manual set tab on the back of the clock.
Press and hold the set tab for 3 seconds. The hour and minute hands will begin to move.
Release the set tab when the clock hands reach the current desired time.
Maintenance
1. Battery Replacement
When replacing batteries, it is recommended to perform a full reset to ensure proper function.
Remove all batteries from the clock.
Press the Manual Time Set tab approximately 20 times to clear any residual electrical charge.
Wait for 15 minutes.
Install fresh, new AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
2. Cleaning
To clean your clock, use a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the clock's finish or internal components.
Troubleshooting
Clock Not Setting or Signal Issues
Check Battery Power: Ensure fresh batteries are installed correctly. Low battery power can prevent signal reception.
Signal Reception: The atomic signal originates from Fort Collins, Colorado. If you are more than 2,000 miles away, or if there are significant obstructions (e.g., large buildings, mountains, heavy concrete walls), signal reception may be weak or intermittent. Try relocating the clock to a different wall or room, especially one facing towards Colorado.
Environmental Interference: Atmospheric conditions, electrical storms, or nearby electronic devices can interfere with the atomic signal. Allow several nights for the clock to attempt synchronization.
Manual Reset: If the clock is not setting after several attempts, perform a manual reset as described in the Maintenance section (remove batteries, press set tab 20 times, wait 15 minutes, reinsert batteries).
Manual Time Setting: As a temporary measure, you can manually set the time if the atomic signal cannot be received. Remember that a successful atomic signal will override manual settings.
Hands Not Moving
Verify that batteries are correctly installed and have sufficient charge.
Perform a manual reset of the clock.
Ensure the hands are not obstructed or bent, preventing movement.
