La Crosse Technology WT-3102B 10-Inch WWVB Self-set Analog Wall Clock Instruction Manual

Model: WT-3102B

Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your La Crosse Technology WT-3102B 10-Inch WWVB Self-set Analog Wall Clock. This clock is designed to receive the WWVB atomic time signal, ensuring precise timekeeping and automatic adjustments for Daylight Saving Time.

Setup

1. Battery Installation

Insert one fresh AA battery (not included) into the battery compartment located on the back of the clock. Ensure correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated. Upon battery insertion, the clock hands will quickly rotate to 12:00 and then begin searching for the WWVB atomic time signal.

2. Time Zone Selection

On the back of the clock, locate the time zone selection buttons. Select your appropriate United States time zone: Pacific (PST), Mountain (MST), Central (CST), or Eastern (EST).

3. Signal Reception and Placement

For optimal signal reception, place the clock near a window, ideally facing Fort Collins, Colorado, where the WWVB atomic clock signal originates. Keep the clock away from electronic devices such as televisions, computers, and microwaves, which may cause interference. Allow up to 24 hours for the clock to receive the signal and set itself automatically to the correct time and date.

Operating

1. Automatic Time Setting

The clock automatically synchronizes with the WWVB atomic time signal broadcast from Boulder, Colorado. This ensures that the clock always displays the precise time without manual adjustment, provided it receives a clear signal.

2. Daylight Saving Time (DST) Adjustment

The clock is equipped with an automatic Daylight Saving Time adjustment feature. Ensure the DST switch on the back of the clock is set to 'ON' if your region observes DST. The clock will then automatically adjust forward one hour in spring and backward one hour in fall.

3. Manual Time Setting

In locations where the atomic time signal cannot be received reliably, the time can be set manually. Press and hold the 'SET' button on the back of the clock. The minute hand will begin to move. Press the 'SET' button repeatedly to advance the minute hand to the desired time. Release the button to stop the adjustment.

4. Initiating Signal Search ('WAVE' Button)

To manually initiate a search for the WWVB atomic time signal, press and hold the 'WAVE' button on the back of the clock for approximately 5 seconds. The clock will then attempt to receive the signal and set itself.

Maintenance

1. Battery Replacement

Replace the AA battery annually to ensure continuous and accurate operation. Use a fresh, high-quality alkaline battery for best performance.

2. Cleaning

To clean the clock, gently wipe the clock face and frame with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or chemical sprays, as these can damage the clock's finish or internal components.

Troubleshooting

  • No Signal or Incorrect Time: If the clock does not set automatically or displays an incorrect time, ensure it is placed away from potential electronic interference and near a window. Allow up to 24 hours for the clock to acquire the WWVB signal. If issues persist, try manually initiating a signal search using the 'WAVE' button or manually setting the time as described in the Operating section.
  • Hands Not Moving: Verify that a fresh AA battery is correctly installed with the proper polarity. If the clock was manually set, ensure it is not stuck in manual setting mode.
  • Intermittent Signal Reception: Signal strength can vary based on location, time of day, and atmospheric conditions. If reception is intermittent, try relocating the clock to a different wall or room, particularly closer to an exterior wall or window.
