Teac RM-860 Rack Mount Kit

Instruction Manual

Introduction

This instruction manual provides detailed guidance for the proper installation and use of the Teac RM-860 Rack Mount Kit. This kit is designed to securely integrate your Teac W860R or W790R cassette deck into a standard 19-inch audio equipment rack, ensuring a stable and organized setup for your studio or home audio system.

Please read this manual thoroughly before beginning installation to ensure correct assembly and to prevent any potential damage to your equipment.

Setup and Installation

The Teac RM-860 Rack Mount Kit includes two rack ears and the necessary mounting hardware. Follow these steps to install your cassette deck into a rack.

  1. Prepare the Cassette Deck: Ensure your Teac W860R or W790R cassette deck is powered off and disconnected from all cables.
  2. Identify Mounting Points: Locate the screw holes on the sides of your cassette deck chassis. These are specifically designed for attaching rack mount ears.
  3. Attach Rack Ears: Align one rack ear with the mounting holes on one side of the cassette deck. Use the provided screws to securely fasten the rack ear to the deck. Do not overtighten. Repeat this process for the second rack ear on the opposite side of the cassette deck.
  4. Prepare the Equipment Rack: Ensure your 19-inch audio equipment rack has sufficient space and is stable. Identify the desired mounting position within the rack.
  5. Mount the Deck in the Rack: Carefully lift the cassette deck with the attached rack ears. Align the holes on the rack ears with the corresponding holes on the rack rails. Use appropriate rack screws (typically M6 or 10-32, often supplied with the rack itself, not this kit) to secure the deck to the rack rails. Secure both the front and, if applicable, the rear of the rack ears to the rack for maximum stability.
  6. Verify Stability: Gently test the installed deck to ensure it is firmly secured within the rack and does not wobble.
  7. Reconnect Cables: Once securely mounted, reconnect all necessary audio and power cables to your cassette deck.

Usage

The Teac RM-860 Rack Mount Kit is a passive component designed to provide a secure and organized mounting solution for your Teac W860R or W790R cassette deck within a standard 19-inch equipment rack. Once installed, the kit facilitates the integration of your cassette deck into a professional audio setup, allowing for efficient cable management and protection of the unit.

No specific operational procedures are required for the rack mount kit itself beyond its initial installation. The functionality of your cassette deck remains unchanged.

Maintenance

The Teac RM-860 Rack Mount Kit requires minimal maintenance. The metal construction is durable and designed for long-term use.

  • Cleaning: If necessary, wipe the rack ears with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust or smudges. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the finish.
  • Screw Tightness: Periodically check the tightness of all mounting screws (both those attaching the ears to the deck and those attaching the deck to the rack) to ensure they remain secure. Vibration or movement over time can sometimes loosen screws.
