Safety Instructions
- Read all instructions before operating the coffeemaker.
- Do not immerse the power base or cord in water or other liquids.
- Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children.
- Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
- Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner.
- The jug is not submersible; clean by hand. The funnel is dishwasher-safe.
- Ensure the upper funnel is properly aligned over the carafe handle to maintain a perfect vacuum seal during operation.
Setup and First Use
- Unpack and Clean: Carefully remove all packaging materials. Wash the jug and funnel with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly. The funnel is dishwasher-safe, but the jug should be cleaned by hand as it is not submersible.
- Prime the Unit: Before brewing coffee for the first time, fill the jug with cold filtered water to the maximum fill line. Place it on the power base. Twist the funnel onto the jug, ensuring the large indentation on the upper funnel is aligned over the handle of the carafe for a proper seal. Do not add coffee. Press the start button and allow a full cycle to complete with plain water. This primes the system and cleans any manufacturing residues.
- Placement: Place the coffeemaker on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from the edge of the counter.
Operating Instructions
Brewing Coffee
- Add Water: Fill the jug with cold, filtered water. The minimum amount of coffee you can brew is four cups.
- Assemble Funnel: Place the jug on the power base. Twist the funnel onto the jug, ensuring the large indentation on the upper funnel is aligned over the handle of the carafe. This alignment is crucial for the vacuum seal.
- Add Coffee Grounds: Add fresh, medium-ground coffee to the funnel. Use one level scoop of ground coffee per cup. For a full 12-cup pot, use 12 scoops. Adjust the amount of coffee to your taste; if the coffee is too strong, reduce the number of scoops. Avoid using fine or powdered coffee, as this can affect brewing and draining.
- Start Brewing: Press the start button. The water will heat up, and the vacuum created between the two parts will move the water up into the funnel, where it mixes with the coffee grounds.
- Brewing Process: The brewing process takes approximately 11 minutes for up to 12 cups. Once the correct brewing time has elapsed, the heat will turn off, and the brewed coffee will drain back into the carafe through the built-in nylon filter. A small amount of water will always remain in the coffee pot during brewing; this is a normal safety feature.
- Serve: Once the coffee has fully drained, remove the funnel and serve. The coffeemaker features a keep-warm function.

Using the Timer Function
The Bodum Santos 3000 includes a 24-hour programmable timer. Refer to the specific instructions on the control panel for setting the timer to automatically start brewing at your desired time. Ensure the coffeemaker is properly set up with water and coffee grounds before activating the timer.
Maintenance and Cleaning
- After Each Use:
- Nylon Filter: Do not scrub the nylon filter. Rinse it thoroughly under warm running water immediately after use.
- Coffee Grounds: Scoop out the used coffee grounds from the upper section into a garbage can or compost using a common kitchen spatula.
- Funnel: Wash the top section (funnel) with dish soap and warm water. It is also dishwasher-safe.
- Jug: Rinse the coffee pot (jug) with warm water and a little soap as soon as you are finished drinking coffee. The jug is not submersible and should be cleaned by hand.
- Drying: After rinsing, leave the lid of the jug open and allow the coffee pot to air dry completely to prevent odors and moisture buildup.
- Descaling: Every so often, clean the pot with a basic de-liming agent to remove mineral deposits, especially if you have hard water. Follow the instructions provided with your chosen descaling product.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the power base with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the power base in water.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |

|
|
| Coffee is not hot enough. | Not applicable; the vacuum brewing process ensures boiling water for optimal temperature. | The Santos coffeemaker is designed to produce a very hot cup of coffee. If you experience issues, ensure the unit is functioning correctly and the brewing cycle completes. |
