2. Setup

Follow these steps to connect your Coby DVD-224 to your television and audio system.

2.1 Connecting to a Television

The DVD-224 offers several video output options. Choose the connection type that is compatible with your television for the best picture quality.

  • Composite Video Connection: Use the yellow RCA cable (included) to connect the VIDEO OUT jack on the DVD player to the VIDEO IN jack on your TV. This is a standard connection for most televisions.
  • S-Video Connection: For improved picture quality over composite video, connect an S-Video cable (not included) from the S-VIDEO OUT jack on the DVD player to the S-VIDEO IN jack on your TV.
  • Component Video Connection: For the highest quality analog video, connect component video cables (red, green, blue - not included) from the Y, Pb, Pr OUT jacks on the DVD player to the corresponding Y, Pb, Pr IN jacks on your TV.

2.2 Connecting to an Audio System

Connect the DVD player to your audio system or television for sound output.

  • Analog Audio Connection: Use the red and white RCA cables (included) to connect the AUDIO L/R OUT jacks on the DVD player to the AUDIO L/R IN jacks on your TV or stereo receiver.
  • Digital Audio Connection (Dolby Digital/DTS): For surround sound, connect either a coaxial digital audio cable (not included) from the COAXIAL OUT jack or an optical digital audio cable (not included) from the OPTICAL OUT jack on the DVD player to the corresponding digital audio input on your compatible audio/video receiver.

2.3 Power Connection

After all audio and video connections are made, plug the AC power cord into a wall outlet. The DVD-224 features an auto-switching universal power supply (AC 110-220V, 50/60 Hz).

2.4 Initial Setup and On-Screen Display

Turn on your television and select the correct input source for the DVD player. Power on the DVD player using the POWER button on the unit or remote control. An on-screen display will guide you through initial settings such as language preference (English, Spanish, French, German, Italian) and video output format (NTSC/PAL).

3. Operating Instructions

This section covers the basic operation of your Coby DVD-224 DVD Player.

3.1 Basic Disc Playback

  1. Ensure the DVD player is powered on and connected to your TV/audio system.
  2. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button on the front panel or remote control to open the disc tray.
  3. Place a disc (DVD, CD, etc.) gently onto the disc tray with the label side facing up.
  4. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button again to close the tray. The player will automatically begin reading the disc.
  5. Playback should start automatically. If a menu appears, use the navigation buttons on the remote to select your desired option.
  6. To stop playback, press the STOP button. To pause, press the PLAY/PAUSE button.
