1. Introduction

3. Setup

3.1 Initial Power-Up

  1. Connect the power supply to the printer and then to a wall outlet.
  2. Press the power button to turn on the printer.

3.2 Installing the Ink Cartridge

  1. Open the printer's top cover to access the cartridge bay.
  2. Carefully unpackage the HP 57 tri-color inkjet cartridge. Avoid touching the copper contacts or ink nozzles.
  3. Insert the cartridge into its designated slot until it clicks into place.
  4. Close the top cover. The printer will perform an initial alignment process.

3.3 Loading Photo Paper

The HP PhotoSmart 245 supports 4x6 inch photo paper. Load paper into the input tray with the glossy side facing up.

  1. Extend the output tray.
  2. Adjust the paper guides to fit the width of the photo paper.
  3. Insert up to one sheet of 4x6 inch glossy photo paper into the input slot.

3.4 Software Installation (Optional)

While the printer can operate independently, installing the included software provides additional photo editing and management features.

  1. Insert the CD-ROM into your computer's CD drive.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the photo and imaging software.

4. Operating the Printer

4.1 Direct Photo Printing from Memory Card

The HP PhotoSmart 245 features four built-in memory card slots supporting CompactFlash, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, Secure Digital, MultiMedia Card, and xD-Picture Card media.

  1. Insert your digital camera's memory card into the appropriate slot on the printer.
  2. Use the 1.8-inch LCD and control buttons to navigate through your images.
  3. Select the desired image(s) and adjust settings such as quantity, brightness, contrast, and borders using the printer's controls.
  4. Press the Print button to begin printing. A 4x6 inch photo typically prints in approximately 90 seconds.

4.2 Printing from a Computer

Ensure the printer is connected to your computer via USB and the software is installed.

  1. Open the photo or document you wish to print on your computer.
  2. Select "Print" from the application's menu.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Replacing the Ink Cartridge

When print quality degrades or the printer indicates low ink, replace the HP 57 tri-color inkjet cartridge.

  2. Open the top cover. The cartridge carriage will move to the center.
  3. Gently press down on the old cartridge to release it, then pull it out.
  4. Unpackage the new HP 57 tri-color inkjet cartridge and insert it firmly into the slot until it clicks.
  5. Close the top cover. The printer will perform an automatic calibration.

5.2 Cleaning the Printer

Regular cleaning helps maintain print quality and extends printer life.
