3. Setup

  1. Place the game board on a flat surface.
  2. Separate the Chance and Community Chest cards, shuffle each deck, and place them face down on their designated spaces on the board.
  3. Each player chooses one tin game token to represent them during the game.
  4. One player is selected as the Banker. The Banker is responsible for all money, Title Deeds, Houses, and Hotels not yet owned by players. The Banker also collects taxes and fines and pays salaries and bonuses.
  5. The Banker distributes starting money to each player. In Monopoly Europe, this will be in Euro denominations.
  6. Each player places their chosen token on the "GO" space.

4. Operating (Game Rules)

4.1. Objective

The objective of Monopoly Europe is to be the last player remaining with money, by bankrupting all other players through rent collection on your properties.

4.2. Gameplay Overview

Players take turns rolling two dice and moving their token clockwise around the board. The space a player lands on determines the action they must take.

4.3. Spaces and Actions

  • Properties (European Capitals): If you land on an unowned capital, you may buy it for the price printed on the board. If you decline, the Banker immediately auctions it to the highest bidder. If you land on an owned capital, you must pay rent to the owner. Rent increases if the owner has a complete color set, and significantly more with Houses and Hotels.
  • Airports (e.g., Heathrow Airport): Similar to properties, these can be bought. Rent depends on how many Airports the owner possesses.
  • Utilities (e.g., European Court of Justice): These can be bought. Rent is determined by a dice roll multiplied by a fixed amount, increasing if the owner has both utilities.
  • Chance and Community Chest: Draw the top card from the respective deck and follow its instructions.
  • Income Tax / Super Tax: Pay the specified amount to the Banker.
  • Go to Jail: Move your token directly to Jail. You do not collect 200 Euros for passing GO.
  • Just Visiting: If you land on this space, you are simply visiting Jail and take no action.
  • Free Parking: No action is taken on this space.
  • GO: When you pass or land on GO, collect 200 Euros from the Banker.

4.4. Building Houses and Hotels

Once you own all properties in a color group, you can begin building Houses and Hotels on them. You must build evenly across the properties in a group. Houses and Hotels increase the rent significantly.

4.5. Mortgaging Properties

If you need money, you can mortgage properties to the Banker. Mortgaged properties do not collect rent. To unmortgage, pay the mortgage value plus 10% interest.

4.6. Bankruptcy

If you owe more money than you can pay, even by selling Houses/Hotels and mortgaging properties, you are bankrupt and out of the game. Your properties are turned over to the player you owe money to, or to the Banker if you owe the bank.

4.7. Winning the Game

The last player remaining in the game is the winner.

5. Maintenance

Proper care will extend the life of your Monopoly Europe game:

  • Storage: Always return all components to the game box after play. Store the box in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent warping or fading.
  • Cleaning: Wipe the game board and plastic components with a soft, dry cloth if needed. Do not use abrasive cleaners or liquids.
  • Handling: Handle cards and money carefully to prevent bending or tearing. The tin figures should be handled gently; if bent, they can be carefully reshaped as per original instructions.
  • Warning: This product contains small parts which may be swallowed. Not suitable for children under 3 years of age.
