Important Safeguards
When using pressure cookers, basic safety precautions should always be followed:
- Read all instructions.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
- Close supervision is necessary when the pressure cooker is used near children.
- Do not place the pressure cooker in a heated oven.
- Extreme caution must be used when moving a pressure cooker containing hot liquids.
- Do not use the pressure cooker for other than intended use.
- This appliance cooks under pressure. Improper use may result in scalding injury. Make certain unit is properly closed before operating. See "Closing the Cover" section.
- Never force open the pressure cooker. Make certain pressure has dropped completely before opening. See "Releasing Pressure" section.
- Do not fill the unit over 2/3 full. When cooking foods that expand during cooking, such as rice or dried vegetables, do not fill the unit over 1/2 full.
- Certain foods, such as applesauce, cranberries, pearl barley, oatmeal or other cereals, split peas, noodles, macaroni, rhubarb, or spaghetti can foam, froth, and sputter, and clog the pressure release device. These foods should not be cooked in a pressure cooker.
- Always check the pressure release device for clogging before use.
- After cooking, allow the pressure to drop naturally or use the quick release method.
- Do not use this pressure cooker for deep frying with oil.
- Ensure the cover lock indicator shows when there is pressure inside the cooker and prevents the cover from being removed until pressure is safely reduced.

Setup and First Use
- Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for future storage if desired.
- Wash: Before first use, wash all parts of the pressure cooker (pot, lid, sealing ring, pressure regulator, and cooking rack) in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. The pot and rack are dishwasher safe. The sealing ring should be removed after each use for cleaning the inside rim of the lid.
- Inspect: Check the vent pipe for any obstructions. Ensure the overpressure plug and air vent/cover lock are clean and properly seated.
- Assemble: Place the sealing ring securely inside the rim of the lid. Attach the pressure regulator to the vent pipe on the lid.
Operating Instructions
Adding Food and Liquid
- Always add at least 1/2 cup of liquid (water, broth, etc.) to the pressure cooker for steam generation.
- Do not fill the cooker more than two-thirds full with food and liquid combined.
- For foods that expand (e.g., rice, dried beans), do not fill more than half full.
- Place the cooking rack at the bottom if desired, especially for steaming or cooking multiple items.
Closing the Cover
- Align the arrow on the cover with the arrow on the body handle.
- Lower the cover onto the body.
- Rotate the cover clockwise until the handles are aligned and the cover is securely locked. The cover lock indicator should be down.
Cooking Under Pressure
- Place the pressure cooker on a burner over high heat.
- Wait for steam to begin escaping steadily from the vent pipe. This indicates that pressure is building.
- Place the pressure regulator firmly on the vent pipe.
- Reduce heat to maintain a gentle, steady rocking motion of the pressure regulator. This is the cooking pressure.
- Begin timing the cooking process according to your recipe.
Releasing Pressure
There are two primary methods for releasing pressure:
- Natural Release: Remove the pressure cooker from heat and allow it to cool naturally. Pressure will gradually decrease. The cover lock indicator will drop when pressure is fully released. This method is ideal for foods that benefit from additional cooking time, such as roasts or stews.
- Quick Release (Cold Water Method): Carefully place the pressure cooker under a cold water tap, allowing cold water to run over the edge of the cover. Do not let water run over the pressure regulator or vent pipe. The cover lock indicator will drop rapidly. This method is suitable for delicate foods like vegetables or fish to prevent overcooking.
Important: Never attempt to open the cover until the cover lock indicator has dropped completely, indicating all pressure has been released.
Care and Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, wash the pressure cooker body, lid, and sealing ring. The pot is fully immersible and dishwasher safe. For the lid, remove the sealing ring and wash both separately.
- Sealing Ring: The sealing ring should be removed after each use to allow cleaning of the inside rim of the lid. Replace the sealing ring annually or if it becomes hard, cracked, or sticky.
- Vent Pipe: Keep the vent pipe clean using a small brush or pipe cleaner.
- Overpressure Plug and Air Vent/Cover Lock: These components are removable for cleaning. Ensure they are free of food particles.
- Polishing: Occasional use of a fine metal polish can help maintain the exterior shine of the aluminum. Use non-abrasive cleansers.
- Storage: Store the pressure cooker with the lid inverted on the pot to allow air circulation and prevent odors.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pressure not building. | Lid not properly sealed; insufficient liquid; heat too low; vent pipe clogged. | Ensure lid is locked correctly; add at least 1/2 cup liquid; increase heat; clean vent pipe. |
| Steam escaping from under the lid. | Sealing ring improperly seated or damaged; food particles on rim; lid not closed properly. | Reposition sealing ring; clean rim and sealing ring; ensure lid is locked. Replace sealing ring if damaged. |
| Cover lock indicator not dropping after cooling. | Residual pressure; vent pipe or overpressure plug clogged. | Allow more cooling time or use quick release method; clean vent pipe and overpressure plug. Do not force open. |
| Food is undercooked. | Insufficient cooking time; heat too low during pressure cooking. | Increase cooking time; ensure steady rocking of pressure regulator. |
