2. Initial Power On and Satellite Acquisition
Press and hold the power button to turn on the device. The unit will begin searching for GPS satellites. For optimal performance, ensure you are in an open area with a clear view of the sky. The SporTrak Pro features a 12-channel GPS receiver and is WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) enabled, allowing for position accuracy of up to three meters.
WAAS utilizes a system of ground reference stations and geostationary satellites to provide corrections to GPS signals, significantly improving accuracy. This system is primarily available in North America and does not require additional equipment or service fees.
3. Map Loading
Your SporTrak Pro comes with a 9 MB North American basemap pre-loaded, detailing highways, major roads, parks, waterways, and marine aids. An additional 23 MB of built-in memory is available for downloading more detailed maps from Magellan's MapSend line of CD-ROMs. Connect the device to your computer using the provided USB cable and follow the MapSend software instructions for map transfer.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Cannot acquire satellite signal. | Obstructed view of sky, weak signal, initial acquisition. | Move to an open area. Ensure the unit is stationary during initial acquisition. The Quadifiler Helix antenna is designed for superior tracking in harsh environments, but a clear view is always best. |
| Map data appears inaccurate or outdated. | Basemap limitations, older MapSend data. | The pre-loaded basemap provides general information. For more detailed and current maps, consider purchasing and loading updated MapSend CD-ROM data. Map data is subject to the date of its creation. |
| High-pitched sound when backlight is on. | Normal operational characteristic for some units. | This may be a characteristic of the backlight circuitry. If the sound is excessively loud or disruptive, ensure the backlight setting is not at its maximum. If concerns persist, contact Magellan support. |
| Difficulty connecting to computer for data transfer. | Incorrect cable, driver issues, software configuration. | Ensure you are using the correct serial USB cable. Install any necessary drivers for the serial connection. Verify software settings in MapSend or other compatible applications. |
