Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the Droll Yankees Classic B-Series 20-Inch Tube Bird Feeder. This durable feeder is designed to attract a variety of birds with its 2.5-pound seed capacity and six feeding ports. Constructed from UV-stabilized polycarbonate and featuring metal components, it offers resistance against squirrel damage and is built for long-lasting outdoor use.
Setup
1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect the feeder for any signs of damage. Ensure all parts, including the tube, top, base, feeding ports, and hanging wire, are present and intact.
2. Assembly
The Droll Yankees Classic B-Series feeder comes largely pre-assembled. The feeding ports and perches are integrated into the tube. Ensure the top cap and bottom base are securely in place. The stainless steel bail wire for hanging should be attached to the top cap.

3. Mounting Options
- Hanging Mount: Use the stainless steel bail wire to hang the feeder from a sturdy branch or a shepherd's hook. Ensure there is at least a few inches of clearance on all sides to deter squirrels and allow birds easy access.
- Pole Mount: The feeder features a threaded base for pole mounting. Attach the feeder to a compatible pole (sold separately) by screwing it onto the threaded connection.

Attracting Birds
It may take some time for birds to discover a new feeder or a feeder in a new location. Patience is key. Ensure the feeder is placed in a visible, yet safe, location away from potential predators. The feeder is designed to attract various species, including Chickadees, Goldfinches, Nuthatches, Sparrows, Cardinals, and more.

Maintenance
Regular Cleaning
To ensure the health of visiting birds, regular cleaning of your feeder is essential. Seed residue and moisture can lead to mold and bacteria growth. Clean the feeder every 1-2 weeks, or more frequently during wet weather or high bird traffic.
- Empty any remaining seed.
- Disassemble the feeder by removing the top cap and the bottom base. The Droll Yankees design allows for easy disassembly for thorough cleaning.
- Wash all parts with warm, soapy water. A mild bleach solution (1 part bleach to 9 parts water) can be used for disinfection, followed by thorough rinsing.
- Rinse all components thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap or bleach residue.
- Allow all parts to dry completely before reassembling and refilling with fresh seed.
Refilling
Refill the feeder as needed, typically when the seed level drops significantly. Consistent availability of fresh seed encourages birds to visit regularly.
Troubleshooting
Squirrel Interference
The Droll Yankees Classic B-Series feeder is designed with features to deter squirrels, including metal ports that cannot be chewed. If squirrels are still an issue, consider the following:
- Ensure the feeder is hung at least 10 feet away from any jumping-off points (trees, fences, structures).
- Use a squirrel baffle above or below the feeder to prevent access.
Birds Not Visiting
If birds are not visiting your feeder, consider these factors:
- Location: Is the feeder in a safe, visible spot? Birds prefer locations with nearby cover for protection.
- Seed Quality: Ensure you are using fresh, high-quality seed. Old or moldy seed will deter birds.
- Cleanliness: A dirty feeder can spread disease and discourage visits.
- Patience: It can take several days or even weeks for birds to discover and become accustomed to a new feeder.
