Setup

Proper connection of the EQ200 is crucial for optimal performance. Follow these steps to integrate the equalizer into your audio system:

  1. Power Off All Components: Before making any connections, ensure your receiver, amplifier, and other audio components are turned off and unplugged from the power outlet.
  2. Connect to Receiver's Tape Monitor Loop:
    • Locate the "Tape Monitor Loop" (or similar "Tape Out" and "Tape In") jacks on your receiver or amplifier.
    • Connect an RCA cable from the "Tape Out" jacks of your receiver to the "Main In" jacks on the rear of the EQ200.
    • Connect another RCA cable from the "Main Out" jacks on the rear of the EQ200 to the "Tape In" jacks of your receiver.
  3. Connect Audio/Video Sources (Optional):
    • For traditional audio sources (CD player, turntable), connect their audio outputs to the "Audio In" jacks on the EQ200.
    • For video sources (VCR, DVD player), connect their audio outputs to the "Video In" jacks on the EQ200. Note that the EQ200 only processes audio signals from video sources and does not affect the video signal.
  4. Connect Tape Decks (Optional):
    • Connect the "Line Out" of your first cassette deck to the "Tape 1 In (play)" jacks on the EQ200.
    • Connect the "Line In" of your first cassette deck to the "Tape 1 Out (rec)" jacks on the EQ200.
    • Repeat for a second cassette deck using the "Tape 2 In (play)" and "Tape 2 Out (rec)" jacks.
  5. Grounding Terminal: If you experience hum or noise, connect a ground wire from your turntable or receiver's ground terminal to the "Grounding Terminal" on the EQ200.
  6. Power Connection: Once all audio connections are secure, plug the EQ200's power cord into a suitable AC outlet.
  7. Power On: Turn on your receiver/amplifier, then the EQ200.

Operating Instructions

This section details how to use the Audiosource EQ200 to customize your audio experience.

1. Selecting an Audio Source

  • Use the input selector on your receiver/amplifier to choose the "Tape Monitor" or "EQ" input.
  • On the EQ200, press the A/V button to the "in" position to control traditional audio sources (e.g., CD player connected to "Audio In").
  • Leave the A/V button "out" to control audio from video sources (e.g., DVD player connected to "Video In").

2. Adjusting Equalization

  • Each of the 10 sliders for the left and right channels corresponds to a specific frequency band (from 39 Hz to 16 kHz).
  • Move a slider up to boost (increase) the volume of that frequency band, or down to cut (decrease) it. Each slider offers up to 12 dB of adjustment.
  • Observe the multicolor spectrum analyzer to visually monitor the audio output and the effect of your adjustments.
  • To compare the equalized sound with the original, press the EQ Bypass button. This temporarily removes the equalization effect.

3. Using Tape Functions

  • Recording from Sources: The EQ200's tape outputs allow you to record from any selected source (radio, CD, etc.) to a connected cassette deck.
  • EQ Record: To record audio with a customized equalization curve, ensure the EQ is active and then begin recording on your cassette deck.
  • Tape Copying (Tape 1-2/Tape 2-1): Use the Tape 1-2/Tape 2-1 button to facilitate copying between two connected tape decks. Refer to your cassette deck's manual for specific recording and dubbing procedures.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Audiosource EQ200, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or chemical sprays, as these can damage the finish.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the unit has adequate ventilation. Do not block any ventilation openings.
  • Environment: Operate the EQ200 in a clean, dry environment. Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Power Cord: Regularly inspect the power cord for any signs of damage. If damaged, discontinue use and contact qualified service personnel.
  • Internal Servicing: The EQ200 contains no user-serviceable parts inside. Do not attempt to open the casing, as this may result in electric shock and will void the warranty. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Audiosource EQ200, please consult the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power:
    • Check that the power cord is securely plugged into both the EQ200 and a working AC outlet.
    • Ensure the power switch on the EQ200 is in the "On" position.
  • No Sound or Distorted Sound:
    • Verify all RCA audio cables are securely connected between the EQ200, your receiver/amplifier, and audio sources.
    • Ensure your receiver/amplifier is set to the correct input (e.g., "Tape Monitor").
    • Check that the EQ200's input selector (A/V button) is set correctly for your source.
    • Ensure none of the EQ sliders are set to extreme cut positions, which could mute or heavily distort sound.
    • If using the EQ Bypass, ensure it is disengaged if you expect equalization.
  • Hum or Buzzing Noise:
    • Ensure all audio cables are properly shielded and securely connected.
    • Connect a ground wire from your turntable or receiver's ground terminal to the EQ200's "Grounding Terminal".
    • Try plugging the EQ200 and other audio components into the same power strip or outlet to avoid ground loops.
  • Spectrum Analyzer Not Responding:
    • Ensure there is an active audio signal passing through the EQ200.
    • Check that the EQ is not in bypass mode if you expect visual feedback on adjustments.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please contact Audiosource customer support or refer to the warranty information for service options.
