1. Introduction
Welcome to Monopoly, the classic property trading board game, now available with complete Spanish rules. This manual provides comprehensive instructions for setting up and playing the game, ensuring an enjoyable experience for 2 to 8 players aged 8 and up. The objective is to become the wealthiest player by buying, renting, and trading properties, ultimately driving opponents into bankruptcy.
2. Game Components
Before starting, ensure all the following components are present in your Monopoly (Spanish Rules) game box:
- 1 Game Board
- 8 Tokens (e.g., car, thimble, top hat, boot, battleship, iron, dog, wheelbarrow)
- 2 Standard Dice
- 1 Speed Die (for faster gameplay, as indicated by "DADO VELOZ" on the box)
- 32 Houses
- 12 Hotels
- 28 Title Deed Cards (for properties, railroads, and utilities)
- 16 Chance Cards
- 16 Community Chest Cards
- 1 Pack of Monopoly Money
- 1 Banker's Tray

3. Setup
- Unfold the game board and place it on a flat surface.
- Separate the Chance and Community Chest cards. Shuffle each deck thoroughly and place them face down on their designated spaces on the game board.
- Each player selects one token to represent them during the game.
- Choose one player to be the Banker. The Banker is responsible for all money, Title Deed cards, Houses, and Hotels not yet owned by players. The Banker also conducts auctions. The Banker may play as a player, but must keep their personal funds separate from the Bank's.
- The Banker distributes starting money to each player:
- Two $500 bills
- Two $100 bills
- Two $50 bills
- Six $20 bills
- Five $10 bills
- Five $5 bills
- Five $1 bills
- Place the Houses and Hotels near the game board, ready for purchase.
- Each player places their chosen token on the "GO" space.
4. Operating (Playing the Game)
4.1. Game Objective
The primary objective is to be the last player remaining in the game. This is achieved by acquiring properties, developing them with Houses and Hotels, and collecting rent from other players until they go bankrupt.
4.2. Starting the Game
Each player rolls the two standard dice. The player with the highest total starts the game. Play then proceeds clockwise (to the left).
4.3. Player Turn
On your turn, follow these steps:
- Roll the Dice: Roll the two standard dice and the Speed Die (if using this variant).
- Move Your Token: Move your token clockwise around the board the number of spaces indicated by the sum of the standard dice.
- Action on Space: Perform the action corresponding to the space you landed on.
- Doubles: If you roll doubles on the standard dice, take your turn as usual, then roll the dice again for an additional turn. If you roll doubles three times in a row, you must immediately go to Jail.
4.4. Types of Spaces and Actions
- Unowned Property (Color Group, Railroad, Utility): You have the option to buy the property for the price printed on the board. If you choose not to buy it, the Banker immediately auctions it to the highest bidder, starting at any price.
- Owned Property: If another player owns the property you land on, you must pay them rent. The rent amount is specified on the Title Deed card and varies based on whether the owner has a complete color group, and if there are Houses or Hotels built on it.
- Chance or Community Chest: Draw the top card from the respective deck and follow its instructions. Return the card face down to the bottom of the deck after use, unless it is a "Get Out of Jail Free" card.
- Income Tax / Luxury Tax: Pay the specified amount to the Bank.
- GO: If you pass or land on the "GO" space, collect $200 from the Bank.
- Jail:
- Just Visiting: If you land on the "Just Visiting" section of the Jail space, there is no penalty.
- Go to Jail: If you land on the "Go to Jail" space, draw a "Go to Jail" card, or roll doubles three times in a row, you must immediately move your token to the Jail space. Do not collect $200 if you pass GO on your way to Jail.
- Getting Out of Jail: You can get out of Jail by: (1) paying a $50 fine before rolling the dice on your next turn, (2) using a "Get Out of Jail Free" card, or (3) rolling doubles on one of your next three turns. If you fail to roll doubles by your third turn, you must pay the $50 fine and then move your token according to your last roll.
- Free Parking: This is a safe space. No action is required, and no money is collected or paid.
4.5. Speed Die Rules (Optional)
When using the Speed Die, roll all three dice (two standard, one Speed Die) at the start of your turn. The Speed Die adds an extra layer of strategy and faster gameplay:
- Numbers (1, 2, 3): Add the number on the Speed Die to the sum of the two standard dice to determine your total movement.
- Mr. Monopoly Symbol: After moving your token based on the standard dice, if all properties in the color group you landed on are owned, you then move to the next unowned property on the board. If all properties are owned, you move to the next property where rent is due.
- Bus Symbol: You can choose to move the sum of the two standard dice, or you can move to any property on the board that is the sum of one of the standard dice (e.g., if you roll a 3 and a 5, you can move 8 spaces, or choose to move 3 spaces, or 5 spaces).
4.6. Building Houses and Hotels
Once you own all properties in a complete color group, you can begin to buy Houses and Hotels from the Bank. Houses must be built evenly across the properties within that color group. For example, you cannot build a second house on one property until all properties in that group have one house. Once you have four houses on all properties in a color group, you can upgrade to a Hotel by returning the four houses to the Bank and paying the Hotel cost.
4.7. Mortgaging Properties
If you need money, you can mortgage properties to the Bank. To do this, turn the Title Deed card face down and collect the mortgage value printed on the back. Mortgaged properties do not collect rent. To unmortgage a property, pay the mortgage value plus 10% interest to the Bank.
4.8. Trading
Players can trade properties, money, and "Get Out of Jail Free" cards with each other at any time, even during another player's turn. All trades must be agreed upon by the involved players.
5. Game End
The game concludes when only one player remains solvent. All other players who have gone bankrupt (cannot pay their debts) are out of the game. The last player remaining is declared the winner.
6. Maintenance
Proper care and storage will ensure the longevity of your Monopoly game:
- Store all game components in their original box in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.
- Keep cards flat to prevent bending or creasing.
- Handle money and tokens carefully to prolong their lifespan.
- Periodically check for any missing components.
7. Troubleshooting
- Running out of money: If you cannot pay a debt, you must raise money by mortgaging properties or selling Houses/Hotels back to the Bank (at half their purchase price). If you still cannot pay, you declare bankruptcy and are out of the game.
- Disputes over rules: In case of disagreement, refer to this instruction manual for clarification. If a specific situation is not explicitly covered, players should agree on a fair resolution before continuing play.
- Missing components: If you find any components missing upon opening the box, please contact Hasbro customer support.
