Safety Information
Please read all safety warnings and operating instructions before using this instrument. Improper use can result in electric shock or damage to the meter. Always adhere to local and national safety codes.
General Safety Guidelines:
- Do not exceed the maximum input values for any function.
- Use caution when working with voltages above 30V AC RMS, 42V peak, or 60V DC. These voltages pose a shock hazard.
- Always disconnect the test leads from the circuit before changing functions.
- Ensure the battery cover is securely closed before operation.
- Do not operate the meter if it appears damaged or if the insulation on the test leads is compromised.
- The device is rated CAT III 1000V.
Setup and Preparation
1. Battery Installation
The GD170D requires three (3) 1.5V AAA batteries (not included). To install or replace batteries:
- Ensure the meter is turned OFF.
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the meter.
- Use a screwdriver to open the battery cover.
- Insert three AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -).

10. INRUSH Measurement (Surge Test)
The INRUSH function measures the initial surge current when a device is powered on.
- Turn the rotary knob to the 'Inrush' position.
- Clamp the meter around the power cable of the device.
- Power on the device and observe the peak inrush current reading.

11. VFD Measurement
The VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) function is used to measure voltage and frequency on VFD circuits, providing accurate readings in the presence of harmonic distortion.
- Turn the rotary knob to the 'VFD' position.
- Connect the test leads to the VFD output.
- Read the voltage and frequency values.
12. LOZ Measurement
The LOZ (Low Impedance) function helps eliminate ghost voltages by providing a low input impedance, which can be useful for determining if a circuit is truly de-energized.
- Turn the rotary knob to the 'LOZ' position.
- Connect the test leads to the circuit.
- Read the voltage value.
13. NCV (Non-Contact Voltage Detection)
To detect AC voltage without contact:
- Turn the rotary knob to the 'NCV' position.
- Move the NCV sensor (top part of the clamp jaw) close to the conductor.
- The meter will indicate the presence of AC voltage with a buzzer and light prompts.

14. Live Wire Detecting
To identify live wires:
- Turn the rotary knob to the 'LIVE' position.
- Use the red test lead to touch the conductor.
- The meter will indicate if the wire is live.

Additional Functions:
- Auto-ranging: The meter automatically selects the appropriate measurement range.
- Data Hold (H): Press the 'HOLD' button to freeze the current reading on the display.
- Max/Min Function: Press the 'MAX/MIN' button to record and display the maximum or minimum measured value.
- Flashlight: Press the flashlight button to illuminate the work area.
- Auto Power Off: The meter will automatically power off after 15 minutes of inactivity to save battery life.

Maintenance
Cleaning:
Wipe the meter with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the input terminals free from dirt and moisture.
Battery Replacement:
When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries as described in the "Setup and Preparation" section (Figure 3).
Storage:
If the meter is not to be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting

User Tips
- For accurate current measurements, ensure only one conductor passes through the clamp jaw. Measuring multiple conductors carrying current in opposite directions will result in a zero or incorrect reading.
- Always start with a higher range when measuring an unknown value to prevent overloading the meter. The auto-ranging feature simplifies this for most functions.
- When measuring capacitance, always discharge the capacitor before connecting the meter to avoid damage to the meter or the component.
- Utilize the flashlight function in dimly lit environments for better visibility of the measurement area.
