Setup and First Use

Unpacking

  1. Carefully remove all packaging materials from the coffee machine.
  2. Check that all components are present: main unit, portafilter, filter baskets, measuring scoop/tamper, and water tank.
  3. Clean all removable parts (water tank, portafilter, filter baskets, drip tray) with warm soapy water, then rinse thoroughly and dry.

Initial Setup

  1. Place the coffee machine on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from water sources and heat.
  2. Ensure the drip tray is correctly inserted into its position.
  3. Fill the 1L detachable water tank with fresh, cold water up to the MAX level. Place the water tank back into its slot on the machine.
  4. Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet. The machine will power on and enter standby mode.

Priming the Machine (First Use or After Extended Storage)

Before making coffee for the first time, or if the machine has not been used for a long period, it is essential to prime the pump to ensure water flows correctly and to remove any air from the system. This also applies if no water is coming out during operation.

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled with water.
  2. Turn the steam/hot water knob to the 'OFF' position (if not already).
  3. Place a cup under the steam wand.
  4. Press the 'Hot Water' button on the touchscreen.
  5. Wait for water to flow continuously from the steam wand. This may take a moment as the pump primes.
  6. Once water flows steadily, turn the steam/hot water knob to the 'OFF' position.
  7. The machine is now primed and ready for use.

Operating Instructions

General Operation

  • Press the ON/OFF icon ON/OFF button on the touchscreen to turn the machine on or off. The display will show the current temperature.
  • The machine will automatically heat up to the optimal brewing temperature of 92°C.
  • Use the cup warming area on top of the machine to pre-heat your espresso cups.

Making Espresso

  1. Select the desired filter basket (single or double shot) and place it into the portafilter.
  2. Add finely ground coffee to the filter basket. For a single shot, use approximately 7-8g; for a double shot, use 14-16g.
  3. Tamp the coffee grounds firmly and evenly using the tamper. Wipe any excess grounds from the rim of the portafilter.
  4. Insert the portafilter into the group head and twist it firmly to the right until it is securely locked.
  5. Place your pre-heated cup(s) under the portafilter spouts.
  6. On the touchscreen, select Espresso icon Espresso for a single shot or Espresso 2 icon Espresso*2 for a double shot. The machine will automatically brew the coffee and stop when complete.
  7. Once brewing is finished, carefully remove the portafilter (it will be hot) and discard the used coffee grounds.

Using the Steam Wand (Milk Frothing)

  1. Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to just below the spout.
  2. Place the pitcher under the steam wand.
  3. Press the Steam icon Steam button on the touchscreen. The machine will begin to heat up for steam production.
  4. Once the steam is ready, turn the steam/hot water knob to the 'ON' position. A small amount of water may come out first; direct this into the drip tray or a separate cup.
  5. Submerge the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk. Angle the pitcher slightly to create a swirling motion.
  6. As the milk froths and heats, lower the pitcher gradually to keep the steam wand tip just below the surface.
  7. Once the milk reaches the desired temperature and consistency (typically around 60-70°C or 140-160°F), turn the steam/hot water knob to the 'OFF' position.
  8. Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying.

Hot Water Function

  1. Place a cup under the steam wand.
  2. Press the Hot Water icon Hot Water button on the touchscreen.
  3. Hot water will dispense from the steam wand. Press the button again to stop the flow.

Long Coffee Function

  1. Prepare the portafilter with coffee grounds as you would for espresso.
  2. Place a larger cup under the portafilter spouts.
  3. Press the Long coffee icon Long button on the touchscreen. The machine will dispense a larger volume of coffee.
  4. Press the button again to stop the flow if you desire a shorter "long" coffee.

Care and Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your BlitzHome CM5105 coffee machine.

Daily Cleaning

  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under hot water. Use a small brush to remove any stubborn coffee residue.
  • Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth. Purge the wand briefly by turning the steam knob on for a second to clear any internal milk residue.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the detachable drip tray daily. Wipe the tray and the area underneath it with a damp cloth.
  • Water Tank: Rinse the water tank daily and refill with fresh water. Clean it thoroughly with mild detergent weekly.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

Descaling

Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up inside the machine, affecting performance and taste. Descale your machine regularly, depending on your water hardness and usage (typically every 2-3 months).

  1. Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions (or use a mixture of white vinegar and water, 1:1 ratio).
  2. Fill the water tank with the descaling solution.
  3. Place a large container under the portafilter and another under the steam wand.
  4. Turn on the machine. Once heated, run approximately half of the solution through the group head (by pressing the Espresso button without coffee) and half through the steam wand (by pressing the Hot Water button).
  5. Turn off the machine and let it sit for 15-20 minutes to allow the solution to work.
  6. Repeat the process until the water tank is empty.
  7. Rinse the water tank thoroughly and fill it with fresh water.
  8. Run several full tanks of fresh water through both the group head and steam wand to thoroughly rinse out any descaling solution.

User Tips

  • Pre-heat your cups: Always pre-heat your espresso cups using the cup warming area or by running hot water into them. This helps maintain the coffee's temperature and flavor.
  • Use fresh coffee beans: For the best taste, use freshly roasted coffee beans and grind them just before brewing.
  • Experiment with grind size: The ideal grind size for espresso is fine, like powdered sugar. If your espresso extracts too fast, try a finer grind; if it extracts too slow, try a coarser grind.
  • Clean immediately: Cleaning the portafilter and steam wand immediately after use prevents coffee oils and milk residue from hardening, making cleaning much easier.
  • Regular descaling: Descaling is crucial for machine longevity and consistent coffee quality, especially in areas with hard water.
