5.2 Connecting Test Leads
For most measurements (voltage, resistance, capacitance, diode, continuity, temperature), the test leads must be connected:
- Insert the red test lead into the 'INPUT' jack (positive).
- Insert the black test lead into the 'COM' jack (common/negative).
Ensure the connections are secure before taking any measurements.
6. Operating Modes
The FY382C features an auto mode that automatically identifies the measurement type (AC/DC voltage, resistance, continuity) when the test leads are connected. You can also manually select specific functions using the 'O/SEL' button.
6.1 Power On/Off
Press the red power button to turn the meter on. The meter will automatically enter auto mode. Press and hold the red power button to turn it off.
6.2 AC/DC Voltage Measurement
- Connect the test leads as described in Section 5.2.
- Turn on the meter. It will automatically detect AC or DC voltage.

- Press the 'O/SEL' button until the capacitance symbol (||-) is displayed.
- Discharge the capacitor before connecting the probes to its terminals.
- Read the capacitance value on the display.
6.6 Continuity Test
- Connect the test leads.
- Press the 'O/SEL' button until the continuity symbol (speaker icon) is displayed.
- Touch the probes to the two points of the circuit or component.
- If there is continuity (low resistance), the buzzer will sound.
6.7 Diode Test
- Connect the test leads.
- Press the 'O/SEL' button until the diode symbol (arrow with bar) is displayed.
- Touch the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode.
- Read the forward voltage drop on the display. Reverse the probes to check for open circuit.
6.8 Temperature Measurement
- Connect the thermocouple to the 'INPUT' and 'COM' jacks, observing polarity if applicable.
- Press the 'O/SEL' button until the temperature symbol (°C/°F) is displayed.
- Place the thermocouple tip on or near the object whose temperature you want to measure.
- Read the temperature on the display.
6.9 NCV (Non-Contact Voltage) Detection
- Press the 'NCV LIVE' button to activate NCV mode.
- Move the top of the clamp meter near the AC voltage source.
- The meter will beep and the display will show increasing bars as it detects AC voltage, indicating the strength of the electric field.

6.10 LIVE Wire Detection
- Press the 'NCV LIVE' button until 'LIVE' mode is activated.
- Insert a single test lead (typically the red one) into the socket or touch it to the wire you want to test.
- If the wire is live, the meter will emit a rapid beep and display 'LIVE'. If it's a neutral wire, there will be no response.

6.11 VFC (Voltage Frequency Control)
The VFC function is specifically designed for measuring AC voltage and frequency in circuits with variable frequency drives (VFDs). This mode filters out high-frequency noise to provide more accurate readings for motor control applications.
- Connect the test leads.
- Press the 'VFC N/L' button to activate VFC mode.
- Perform AC voltage measurement as usual.
6.12 Data Hold
Press the 'HOLD' button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press 'HOLD' again to release it and resume live measurements.
6.13 Flashlight
Press the flashlight button (often integrated with another function button, refer to device markings) to turn on the built-in flashlight. Press again to turn it off.

8. Maintenance
8.1 Cleaning
Wipe the meter with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the meter is completely dry before use.
8.2 Storage
When not in use, store the meter in its provided storage bag in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, ensure the battery is partially charged and recharge it periodically to maintain battery health.
9. Troubleshooting
9.1 Meter Does Not Power On
- Check if the battery is charged. Connect the Type-C charging cable and allow it to charge for some time.
- Ensure the power button is pressed firmly and held for a moment.
9.2 Inaccurate Readings
- Ensure test leads are properly connected and not damaged.
- Verify the meter is in the correct measurement mode for the task.
- Check for external interference (e.g., strong electromagnetic fields).
- Ensure the component being measured is isolated from the circuit if necessary (e.g., for resistance or capacitance).
9.3 No Response in LIVE Mode for Live Wire
- Ensure the 'LIVE' mode is correctly activated (display shows 'LIVE').
- Confirm the test lead is making good contact with the wire.
- The wire might not be live, or the voltage is too low to be detected.
10. User Tips
- Auto Mode Convenience: For general voltage and resistance checks, simply turn on the meter and let its auto mode detect the measurement type. This simplifies operation for quick checks.
- Safety First with NCV/LIVE: Always use the NCV and LIVE wire detection features as a preliminary safety check before making direct contact with wires, especially in unknown circuits.
- True RMS Advantage: Remember that True RMS provides more accurate readings for non-sinusoidal waveforms, which are common in modern electronics and power systems.
- Keep it Charged: The Type-C charging makes it easy to keep your meter ready. A fully charged battery ensures consistent performance.
