2. Installation

Follow these steps to install the WiFi module onto your compatible solar inverter. Ensure the inverter is powered off before beginning installation.

2.1 Physical Installation

The WiFi module supports various connection methods depending on your inverter's interface. Refer to the diagram below and choose the appropriate method.

  1. Method 1 (4PIN Power Cable): Connect the 4PIN power cable of the Wi-Fi PlugII to the inverter. Fasten the Wi-Fi PlugII securely to the inverter with the provided screw.
  2. Method 2 (2PIN Green Interface & 5PIN Power Cable): Connect the 2 PIN green interface of the Wi-Fi PlugII to the RS-485 terminal of the inverter. Connect the 5PIN power cable of the Wi-Fi PlugII to the inverter. Fasten the Wi-Fi PlugII to the inverter with the screw.
  3. Method 3 (4-hole Aviation Plug): Align the 4-hole aviation plug of the Wi-Fi PlugII with the inverter's port and plug it in. Tighten the nut of the Wi-Fi PlugII to secure it to the inverter.
  4. Method 4 (RJ-45 Crystal Head): Align the RJ-45 crystal head of the Wi-Fi PlugII with the inverter's port and plug it in tightly. Fasten the Wi-Fi PlugII to the inverter with the screw.
  5. Method 5 (Serial Port): Align the serial port of the Wi-Fi PlugII with the inverter's port and plug it in tightly. Fasten the Wi-Fi PlugII to the inverter with the screw.

After installation, verify the status of the 4 LED lights on the module. All 4 LEDs should be lit for normal operation.

  2. Connect to Wi-Fi Datalogger: On your mobile phone, connect to the Wi-Fi network broadcast by the Datalogger. The SSID will typically be "WLAN-XXXXXX" (where XXXXXX is part of the module's serial number). The default password is "12345678".
  3. Network Setting: Open the SmartESS app and navigate to the Wi-Fi Config button. Enter your home or local wireless router's Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password. Confirm the settings to connect the Datalogger to your network.
  4. Create Account and Add Datalogger:
    • Open the SmartESS app, tap the 'Register' button to create a new user account. Fill in the required information.
    • After logging in, click the '+' button (or similar 'Add Datalogger' option) in the app.
    • Scan the PN (Product Number) on the Wi-Fi PlugII or manually input the Datalogger PN.
    • Follow the prompts to complete the Datalogger addition process.

3. Operating the WiFi Module

Once the WiFi module is successfully installed and connected to your network via the SmartESS app, you can begin monitoring your solar inverter.

3.1 Remote Monitoring

The SmartESS app provides a user-friendly interface to view various parameters of your solar inverter in real-time. This typically includes:

  • AC Input/Output status
  • PV (Solar Panel) input data
  • Battery charge/discharge status and voltage
  • Load consumption
  • System fault indicators

Navigate through the app's dashboard and various sections to access detailed information and historical data.

4. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your Y&H MPS WiFi Module, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Keep the module clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Environment: Ensure the module is installed in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture.
  • Connections: Periodically check all physical connections to the inverter to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the SmartESS app regularly for any available firmware updates for the WiFi module. Keeping the firmware updated can improve performance and add new features.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your WiFi module, refer to the following troubleshooting tips:

5.1 LED Indicator Status

The WiFi module has 4 LED indicators. Their status can help diagnose issues:

  • All 4 LEDs ON: Normal operation.
  • Fewer than 4 LEDs ON: Indicates a potential issue with the module's connection to the inverter or internal fault. Recheck physical connections.
  • No LEDs ON: The module is not receiving power. Check the inverter's power supply and the module's connection.

5.2 App Connectivity Issues

  • Cannot connect to Datalogger Wi-Fi: Ensure you are within range of the module. Verify the SSID and password (default: 12345678).
  • Datalogger not connecting to home Wi-Fi: Double-check the Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password entered in the SmartESS app's network settings. Ensure your router is operating on a 2.4GHz band, as many IoT devices do not support 5GHz.
  • App not displaying data: Ensure the Datalogger is successfully added to your account in the SmartESS app. Check your internet connection on your mobile device.
  • Module appears offline: Restart both the inverter (if safe to do so) and your home router. Then, restart the SmartESS app.
