4. Setup

4.1. Physical Installation

The recommended installation method for the HLK-LD6001B module is top installation. The ideal height for installing the module on a vertical wall is 2.5-3.0 meters. While this is the general recommendation, you may slightly adjust the height or angle as needed for optimal performance in your specific environment. The actual test results should always prevail. Ensure the module is fixed securely during installation to prevent jitter. The surrounding environment should be as open as possible. If using a USB extension cable, fix it as much as possible to avoid interference.

6. Maintenance and Precautions

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your HLK-LD6001B module, please observe the following:

  • Obstruction: There should be no metal or other electromagnetic wave-blocking materials directly in front of the radar module during operation.
  • Housing Material: If creating a custom shell for the module, use plastic or other materials with low attenuation to avoid affecting detection performance. Different shell materials can alter the returned spectrum energy and parameter settings.
  • Fine-tuning: For fine-tuning in actual conditions, it is generally recommended that the module is placed 5-6mm from the inner surface of its shell.
  • Interference: Avoid installing the module near air conditioning outlets, fans, or other objects that may cause interference.
  • Multiple Modules: When installing and using multiple modules simultaneously, ensure a minimum spacing of 0.5 meters between modules. Also, avoid facing the antennas of different modules directly towards each other.
  • Sensitivity Adjustment: Sensitivity can be adjusted according to the user scenario. If you need to adjust the sensitivity, contact technical support for guidance.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with the HLK-LD6001B module, consider the following:

  • No Detection: Check for obstructions in front of the radar. Ensure the module is powered correctly (3.3V VCC). Verify wiring connections (VCC, GND, TX, RX).
  • Inaccurate Detection: Review installation height and angle. Ensure the surrounding environment is clear of excessive interference sources (fans, AC units). Check if the module is properly seated within its housing (if applicable), maintaining the recommended 5-6mm distance from the shell.
  • Communication Issues: Confirm the correct serial port is selected in the host computer configuration tool. Ensure TX and RX lines are correctly connected.
  • Interference from Multiple Modules: If using multiple modules, verify they are spaced at least 0.5 meters apart and their antennas are not directly facing each other.
  • Sensitivity Problems: If detection is too sensitive or not sensitive enough, sensitivity may need adjustment. Refer to the manufacturer's technical support for guidance on advanced sensitivity settings.

8. User Tips

  • Debugging Board: For initial setup and testing, consider acquiring an HLK-LD6001 Debugging Board or the 'ld6001B test suit' option. This simplifies connections and provides a convenient interface for configuration.
  • Environmental Factors: While the module is robust, minimizing clutter and ensuring an open detection area will yield the best results.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the Hi-Link official website for any available firmware updates or improved configuration tools that might enhance performance or add features.
