- Unpack the Device: Carefully remove the walkie talkie and all accessories from the packaging. The package typically includes the main unit, battery, antenna, back clip, charger (charging stand and power adapter), and an instruction manual.
- Install the Battery: Ensure the battery is correctly aligned with the contacts on the back of the walkie talkie. Slide the battery into place until it clicks securely.
- Attach the Antenna: Screw the antenna clockwise into the connector on the top of the walkie talkie until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.
- Attach the Back Clip: If desired, attach the back clip to the designated slot on the rear of the walkie talkie. This allows for easy carrying on a belt or pocket.
- Initial Charging:
- Connect the power adapter to the charging stand.
- Place the walkie talkie into the charging stand. Ensure the charging contacts on the radio align with those on the stand.
- Plug the power adapter into a suitable power outlet. The indicator light on the radio or charging stand will typically show red during charging and turn green when fully charged.
- Alternatively, you can use a Type-C USB cable to charge the walkie talkie directly. Connect one end of the Type-C cable to the charging port on the radio and the other end to a USB power source.
- For first-time use, it is recommended to fully charge the battery before operation.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment
- Power On: Rotate the Volume Switch (top knob) clockwise until you hear a click and the screen illuminates.
- Power Off: Rotate the Volume Switch counter-clockwise until you hear a click.
- Volume Adjustment: After powering on, continue rotating the Volume Switch clockwise to increase volume or counter-clockwise to decrease it.
5.2 Frequency/Channel Selection
- VFO Mode (Frequency Mode): Use the keypad to directly input the desired frequency. The Band Switch (second top knob) can be used to switch between different frequency bands (VHF/UHF/AM Air Band).
- Channel Mode: Use the up/down arrow keys or the keypad to select a stored channel. The ZASTONE M10 supports up to 199 named storage channels.
- Scanning: The device supports VFO scanning, channel scanning, and CTC/DCS scanning. Refer to the on-screen menu (accessible via the MENU button) for specific scanning options and settings.
5.3 Transmitting and Receiving
- Receiving: When the radio is on and tuned to an active frequency/channel, it will automatically receive incoming transmissions.
- Transmitting (PTT): Press and hold the PTT-1 or PTT-2 button on the side of the radio to transmit. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to stop transmitting and return to receive mode.
- VOX Function: The Voice Operated Transmit (VOX) function allows hands-free transmission. When VOX is enabled, the radio will automatically transmit when it detects your voice. Adjust VOX sensitivity via the menu to prevent accidental transmissions or missed speech.
5.4 FM Radio Operation
The ZASTONE M10 includes a broadcast FM radio receiver (65-108 MHz). Access this function through the menu or a dedicated function button (if available) and use the frequency selection methods to tune to your desired FM station.
5.5 Advanced Functions
- Squelch Adjustment: Adjust the squelch level (1-10) via the menu to filter out weak signals and background noise. A higher squelch level requires a stronger signal to open the receiver.
- CTCSS/DCS Tones: Use CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) and DCS (Digitally Coded Squelch) codes to filter out unwanted conversations on a shared frequency. Set these tones via the menu for both transmit and receive.
- Keypad Lock: To prevent accidental key presses, activate the keypad lock function through the menu or a shortcut key.
- PC Programming: The ZASTONE M10 is PC programmable. You can use dedicated software (contact seller for software) to customize frequencies, channels, and other settings from your computer.
6. Maintenance
Proper care and maintenance will extend the life of your ZASTONE M10 walkie talkie:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the radio's exterior. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the Type-C charging port is free of dust and debris.
- Battery Care:
- Always use the original or approved charger and battery.
- Avoid overcharging or completely draining the battery frequently.
- If storing the radio for an extended period, charge the battery to about 50% and remove it from the radio. Store in a cool, dry place.
- Environmental Protection: The ZASTONE M10 is IP65 waterproof/water-resistant and anti-seismic & impact resistant. However, avoid prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, heavy rain, or submersion in water.
- Antenna: Do not operate the radio without the antenna attached, as this can damage the transmitter.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your ZASTONE M10, try the following troubleshooting steps:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Radio does not power on | Low or dead battery; Battery not installed correctly; Power switch faulty. | Charge the battery; Reinstall the battery; Contact support if switch is faulty. |
| Cannot transmit or receive | Incorrect frequency/channel; Squelch level too high; Antenna not connected; Battery low. | Verify frequency/channel; Adjust squelch; Check antenna connection; Charge battery. |
| Poor audio quality | Low signal strength; Volume too low/high; Microphone/speaker obstructed. | Move closer to other radios; Adjust volume; Clear obstructions. |
| Keypad is unresponsive | Keypad lock is active. | Deactivate keypad lock (refer to operating instructions). |
If the problem persists after trying these solutions, please contact customer support.
8. User Tips
- Range Optimization: For maximum range, ensure you have a clear line of sight to the other radio. Obstacles like buildings and dense foliage can significantly reduce communication distance.
- Battery Life: To conserve battery life, utilize the energy-saving function and consider using lower power output when long-range communication is not critical.
- Channel Management: Organize your stored channels with clear names for quick identification, especially if you operate across multiple bands or groups.
- Headphone Use: For private listening or in noisy environments, use a K-type compatible headset with the headphone jack.
9. Warranty and Support
The ZASTONE M10 walkie talkie comes with a 12-month warranty for the main unit. Accessories typically have a 6-month warranty. Please retain your proof of purchase for warranty claims.
For technical support, warranty claims, or any other inquiries, please contact the seller or manufacturer directly. Ensure you provide your product model (ZT-M10) and a detailed description of the issue.
