4. Installation Guide
4.1 Motherboard Variations
Due to different production batches, the X99 motherboard may have slight variations in design, such as memory slot color, SATA port positions, or overall motherboard version (e.g., V201, V202, V203, V204). These variations do not affect functionality. The chipset model (e.g., Q87/Q85/Z87/H87/H81/B85) is sent randomly, with H81/B85/Q85 being common. The PCB color (Green or Black) is also random.

Figure 3: Example of motherboard variations that may be shipped.
4.2 RAM Installation
For optimal performance and stability, follow the RAM installation priority:
- 1 RAM module: Install in slot #1 or slot #4 (green slots).
- 2 RAM modules: Install in slot #1 and slot #4.
- 3 RAM modules: Install in slot #1, slot #4, and either slot #2 or slot #3.
- 4 RAM modules: Install in all available slots.
Important: The black RAM slots cannot function alone. All RAM modules must be desktop memory; server memory (REG ECC) cannot be mixed with desktop memory on this board.

4.3 CPU and Cooler Installation
Ensure the CPU is correctly seated in the LGA 2011-3 socket. Apply thermal paste and install the CPU cooler using the provided mounting bracket and screws. The Xeon E5 2640 V4 CPU supports DDR4 memory up to 2133MHz. While your 2666MHz RAM modules are compatible, the system will operate them at 2133MHz. This will be reflected in system information, though CPU-Z might show the native 2666MHz speed.

6. Operating Instructions
Once all components are correctly installed and connected, power on your system. The motherboard will initiate the boot process. You may need to install an operating system if not already present on your storage drive. Refer to your operating system's installation guide for further steps.
Access the BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing the designated key (usually DEL, F2, or F10) during startup to configure boot order, system time, and other advanced settings.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Regularly clean dust from inside your PC case, especially from CPU coolers, fans, and heatsinks, using compressed air. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
- BIOS Updates: Check the manufacturer's website for BIOS updates. Update only if necessary and follow instructions carefully to avoid system damage.
- Component Checks: Periodically check all cable connections (power, SATA, etc.) to ensure they are secure.
8. Troubleshooting
- System Instability/Blue Screen: Do not attempt to forcibly open or activate any sensor devices on the motherboard if it lacks a dedicated temperature control chip. Doing so can lead to system instability, blue screens, or crashes.
- Incorrect Temperature Readings: The motherboard may not have a physical temperature control chip, leading to software reporting "virtual temperatures" (e.g., 110°-120°C). This is normal. The actual operating temperature of the motherboard should not exceed 50°C under normal use. Use a physical thermometer for accurate readings if concerned.
- No Power/Boot:
- Verify all power connections, including the 24-pin main power connector and CPU power connector.
- Ensure your power supply is at least 500W and functioning correctly.
- Check that the CR2032 CMOS battery is correctly installed.
- RAM Not Detected: Re-check RAM installation according to the priority guide in Section 4.2. Ensure modules are fully seated.
