  • Padded Arm Cuff: Provides comfort and stability during use.
  • LCD Screen: Displays detection information, mode, and battery status.
  • Handle Grip: Ergonomic grip for comfortable handling.
  • Pinpoint Button: Used for precise location of detected objects.
  • Stem Lock Nut: Secures the adjustable stem at the desired length.
  • Knob: Control knob for various settings (e.g., sensitivity, discrimination).
  • Search Coil: The primary detection component, which is waterproof.
  • Control Unit: Houses the electronics, display, and controls.

4. Setup and Assembly

Follow these steps to assemble your GT620G Metal Detector:

  1. Attach the Search Coil: Connect the search coil to the lower stem using the provided hardware (knob and washers). Ensure it is securely fastened but allows for slight angular adjustment.
  2. Assemble the Stem: Connect the lower stem to the upper stem. The stem is adjustable in length.
  3. Attach the Control Unit and Armrest: Slide the control unit onto the upper stem. Attach the armrest to the upper stem. Secure all connections.
  4. Insert Batteries: The detector requires two 9V alkaline batteries (not included). Open the battery compartment on the control unit (refer to Figure 4) and insert the batteries, observing correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
  5. Adjust Length: Adjust the stem length using the stem lock nut to a comfortable position that allows the search coil to be parallel to the ground when sweeping. The detector's height is adjustable from approximately 22.5cm to 112cm (8.85in to 44.09in).

5. Operating Instructions

The GT620G offers two primary detection modes:

  • ALL METAL Mode: Detects all types of metal objects. This mode is ideal for general searching when you want to find any metallic item.
  • DISC (Discrimination) Mode: Allows the detector to distinguish between different types of metals, enabling you to filter out unwanted metals (e.g., iron trash) and focus on more valuable targets. Use the knob to adjust the discrimination level.

Basic Operation:

  1. Power On: Turn on the detector using the power button on the control unit.
  2. Select Mode: Choose between ALL METAL and DISC modes based on your search preference.
  3. Adjust Sensitivity: Use the control knob to adjust the detector's sensitivity. Higher sensitivity can detect smaller or deeper objects but may also increase false signals in mineralized ground.
  4. Sweep the Coil: Hold the detector with the search coil parallel to the ground, about 1-2 inches above the surface. Sweep the coil slowly from side to side in overlapping motions.
  5. Signal Indication: When a metal object is detected, the LCD screen will display an indication, and an audible tone will sound (if not using headphones).
  6. Pinpointing: Once a target is detected, press the Pinpoint button to narrow down the exact location of the object. Move the coil slowly over the target area until the strongest signal is heard/displayed.
  7. Earphone Use: For private searching or in noisy environments, connect headphones (not supplied) to the earphone jack on the control unit.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the detector with a damp cloth. For the search coil, especially after use in water or dirt, rinse it with fresh water and dry thoroughly. Do NOT submerge the control unit in water.
  • Battery Care: Always remove the batteries if the detector will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage and damage.
  • Storage: Store the detector in a cool, dry place. Avoid extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
  • Cable Management: Ensure all cables are not pinched or excessively bent, as this can lead to damage and signal issues.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Check if the batteries are inserted correctly with the right polarity. Ensure batteries are fresh and fully charged.
  • Erratic Signals/False Alarms: This can be caused by high sensitivity in mineralized ground, electromagnetic interference from power lines or other electronics, or nearby metallic objects. Try lowering the sensitivity or moving to a different location.
  • No Detection: Ensure the detector is turned on and the search coil is properly connected. Check battery levels.
  • Poor Depth Detection: Ensure sensitivity is set appropriately for the ground conditions. Large, highly conductive objects are typically detected at greater depths than small, less conductive ones.

9. User Tips

  • Detection Depth: The depth of detection can vary significantly based on the size, material, and age of the buried object, as well as the mineralization of the soil. Larger, more conductive objects buried in less mineralized soil will generally be detected deeper.
  • Practice Makes Perfect: Spend time in a known area (e.g., your backyard) with various buried metal objects to get a feel for the detector's responses and how to interpret signals.
  • Headphones: Using headphones can help you hear subtle signals that might be missed in noisy environments, improving your detection accuracy.
  • Slow Sweeps: Always sweep the search coil slowly and deliberately. Rushing can cause you to miss targets.
