2. Setup

2.1 Package Contents

Before proceeding with the installation, please verify that all items are present in the package:

  • 1 x ZKTeco U160 WIFI Fingerprint Time Attendance Recorder
  • 1 x Power Adapter
  • 1 x USB Cable
  • 1 x Set of Screws for mounting
  • 1 x Software and User Manual CD (containing ZKTime 5.0 software)

2.2 Physical Installation

The U160 device can be wall-mounted using the provided screws. Identify a suitable location with access to power and network connectivity (if using wired Ethernet).

  1. Use the mounting bracket (if included) or the device's back panel as a template to mark drilling points on the wall.
  2. Drill holes and insert wall plugs if necessary.
  3. Secure the device to the wall using the provided screws.

2.3 Power and Connectivity

Connect the power adapter to the device and a suitable power outlet. The U160 supports multiple communication methods:

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Menu Navigation

The U160 features a color TFT screen with a GUI interface. Use the numeric keypad and navigation buttons (Up, Down, Left, Right, M/OK, ESC) to navigate through the device menus and settings.

3.2 User Registration (Fingerprint)

To enroll a new user's fingerprint:

  1. Press the M/OK button to access the main menu.
  2. Navigate to 'User Management' or 'Enroll User'.
  3. Select 'Enroll Fingerprint'.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to place the user's finger on the optical sensor multiple times for accurate registration.
  5. The device will provide audio-visual indications for successful enrollment.

3.3 Time Attendance

Once users are enrolled, they can clock in or out by simply placing their registered finger on the optical sensor. The device will confirm successful recognition with an audio-visual cue.

3.4 Data Management and Software (ZKTime 5.0)

The U160 comes with ZKTime 5.0 software for comprehensive attendance management. This software allows for:

  • Employee attendance monitoring
  • Payroll processing and cost reduction
  • Overtime calculation and maintenance
  • Reduction of data entry errors
  • Elimination of 'Buddy Punching' through fingerprint authentication

The software is compatible with Windows OS only.

3.5 Data Transfer Methods

Attendance data can be transferred from the U160 to a PC using several methods:

  • WIFI: Connect the U160 to your wireless network.
  • TCP/IP (RJ45): Connect the U160 to your network router via an Ethernet cable.
  • USB Flash Drive: Use the built-in USB host port to download data directly to a USB flash drive. The data can then be imported into the ZKTime 5.0 software.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Fingerprint Sensor

To ensure optimal performance, regularly clean the optical fingerprint sensor with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that could damage the sensor surface.

4.2 Data Backup and Retrieval

It is highly recommended to regularly back up your attendance data to prevent loss. The ZKTime 5.0 software provides options for data backup and retrieval. Consult the software's help documentation for detailed instructions on these procedures.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Fingerprint Not Recognized: Ensure the finger is clean and dry. Try re-enrolling the fingerprint if the issue persists. Ensure proper placement on the sensor.
  • Network Connection Issues: Verify network cable connection for TCP/IP. For WIFI, check network settings on the device and ensure it's within range of the access point.
  • Software Compatibility: The ZKTime 5.0 software is only compatible with Windows OS. It is not compatible with Mac OS.
  • Data Transfer Problems: Check USB cable connection or ensure the USB flash drive is properly formatted and recognized by the device.
