Setup Guide
1. Charging the Device
Before first use, fully charge the ZL-166 Land Area Meter. The device is equipped with a built-in 3.7V 2500mAH Lithium Battery.
- Connect the provided USB cable to the charging port on the device.
- Connect the other end of the USB cable to the power adapter.
- Plug the power adapter into a standard US 100-240V wall outlet.
- The device display will indicate charging status. Allow sufficient time for a full charge.

2. Powering On/Off
- To Power On: Press and hold the power button (usually marked with a power symbol or integrated into one of the main control buttons) until the display lights up.
- To Power Off: Press and hold the power button until a power-off prompt appears on the screen, then confirm.
3. Initial GPS Acquisition
For accurate measurements, the device needs to acquire a GPS signal. Perform initial GPS acquisition outdoors with a clear view of the sky.
- Upon powering on, the device will automatically search for GPS and Glonass signals.
- Wait until the signal strength indicators (often bars or a satellite icon) show a stable connection. This may take a few minutes depending on your location and environmental conditions.
Operating Instructions
The ZL-166 Land Area Meter offers several measurement modes for different applications.
1. Automatic Track Measurement (Area)
This mode is ideal for measuring irregular land areas by walking the perimeter.
- Ensure the device has a stable GPS signal.
- Navigate to the "Automatic Track Measurement" mode on the device.
- Press the "OK" or "Start" button to begin recording at your starting point (Point A).
- Walk along the boundary of the area you wish to measure. Maintain a consistent pace and ensure a clear path.
- Once you return to your starting point or complete the perimeter, press the "OK" or "End" button.
- The device will display the measured area in hectares.

2. Length and Width Measurement
This mode is suitable for measuring the length and width of rectangular or square areas.
- Ensure stable GPS signal.
- Select "Length and Width Measurement" mode.
- Press "Start" at Point A.
- Walk to Point B (end of length), then press "Start" again.
- Walk to Point C (end of width), then press "OK".
- The device will calculate and display the length, width, and potentially the area.
3. Airborne Mode
Designed for agricultural machinery, this mode measures area while the device is mounted on a vehicle.
- Before starting, set the "vehicle width" of your agricultural machinery in the device settings.
- Mount the ZL-166 securely on the agricultural machinery.
- Press "Start" to begin measurement along the operation path.
- When the operation is complete or you reach the destination, press "Confirm".
- The device will calculate the area covered based on the vehicle width and track.

4. Curve Measurement
Measures the length of a curved path.
- Ensure stable GPS signal.
- Enter the "Curve Measurement" interface.
- Click "Confirm" to start measuring from Point A.
- Walk along the curved path to Point B.
- Click "End" to get the distance data of the straight line between the two points. (Note: The description states "straight line between two points" for curve measurement, which might be a translation nuance. It typically measures the actual path length).
5. Straight Line Measurement
Measures the distance between two points in a straight line.
- The operation steps are similar to Curve Measurement, but for a straight path.
- Start at Point A, walk in a straight line to Point B, and end the measurement.
6. Data Export
The device supports exporting recorded data. Connect the device to a computer using the provided USB cable to access and transfer measurement records.
7. Voice Broadcast
The ZL-166 features voice broadcast functionality, allowing you to hear measurement results without constantly looking at the screen. Ensure the volume is adjusted to your preference in the device settings.
Maintenance and Care
- Cleaning: The device has good waterproof and dustproof performance (IP class). Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Charge the device regularly, even if not in use for extended periods.
- Physical Protection: The double injection molding shell and insulating rubber provide cushioning and anti-skid properties. While durable, avoid dropping the device or subjecting it to severe impacts.
Troubleshooting
1. Device Not Powering On
- Ensure the battery is sufficiently charged. Connect the device to the power adapter and allow it to charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on again.
- Check the USB cable and power adapter for any damage.
2. No GPS Signal / Low Accuracy
- Location: Ensure you are outdoors with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky. Buildings, dense foliage, or overhead structures can interfere with GPS signals.
- Time: Initial GPS acquisition can take a few minutes. Be patient and allow the device time to lock onto satellites.
- Movement: Remain stationary during initial signal acquisition.
- Environmental Factors: Heavy cloud cover or severe weather can temporarily affect GPS accuracy.
- Accuracy Specifications: Remember the device has a Positioning Accuracy of ≤1.5m and a Track Tolerance of ±2m. Relative Area Accuracy is <= 2% (1-3 Hectares) and <= 1% (More Than 3 Hectares). Small variations are normal.
3. Incorrect Measurement Readings
- Calibration: While GPS devices are generally self-calibrating, ensure you are following the measurement procedure precisely for each mode.
- Path Consistency: For track measurement, walk the perimeter as accurately as possible. Any deviation from the actual boundary will affect the result.
- Airborne Mode Settings: Double-check the "vehicle width" setting in Airborne Mode to ensure it matches your machinery.
4. Voice Broadcast Not Working
- Check the volume settings in the device menu.
- Ensure the voice broadcast feature is enabled.
