Introduction
The Kegland Duo Bottle Filler Beer Gun is an essential tool for home brewers looking to bottle their beer directly from a keg. This device is engineered to minimize foaming and oxygen pickup during the bottling process, ensuring a higher quality bottled product. It achieves this by filling bottles from the bottom up, utilizing a gravity-fed, spring-loaded mechanism that dispenses beer only when pressed against the bottom of the bottle.
The system incorporates Duo-Tight fittings for easy and secure connection to your existing kegging setup.
Setup Instructions
Follow these steps to correctly assemble and connect your Kegland Duo Bottle Filler Beer Gun:
- Connect Beer Gun Unit: Securely attach the Beer Gun Unit to your gas and liquid kegger system. Use a silicone spanner to ensure the nut is tightened properly, preventing leaks.
- Attach Duo-Tight Elbow: Push the 8mm Duo-Tight elbow fitting firmly into the designated port on the beer gun.

Figure 3: Beer gun valve assembly with the elbow and reducer connected. - Connect Beer Line: Connect your 4mm x 8mm beer line to the 6.5mm reducer.
- Connect Gas Line: Connect your 4mm x 8mm gas line to the gas inlet on the beer gun.
- Attach Ball Lock Disconnects: Attach the red Duo-Tight ball lock disconnect to the liquid outlet of the beer gun and the yellow Duo-Tight ball lock disconnect to the gas outlet of the beer gun.
- Mark Depth Level (Recommended): For consistent fills and to prevent overfilling, it is recommended to mark a depth level on your tubing. This helps ensure each bottle receives the same volume.

Operating Instructions
Once the beer gun is properly connected to your kegging system, follow these steps to bottle your beer:
- Ensure your keg is chilled and properly carbonated.
- Sanitize your bottles and the beer gun thoroughly before use.
- Insert the beer gun's probe into an empty bottle, pushing it down until the spring-loaded mechanism engages the bottom of the bottle. This action will open the valve and begin the flow of beer.
- Fill the bottle from the bottom up. This method minimizes turbulence and foaming, reducing oxygen pickup.
- Once the desired fill level is reached (refer to your depth marker if used), release the pressure on the bottle's bottom. The spring mechanism will close the valve, stopping the beer flow.
- Carefully remove the beer gun from the bottle.
- Cap the bottle immediately to seal in freshness and carbonation.

Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and hygienic operation of your beer gun:
- Cleaning: After each use, thoroughly rinse the beer gun with warm water to remove any beer residue. Follow with a sanitizing solution to prevent bacterial growth.
- Disassembly for Cleaning: For deeper cleaning, the beer gun can be partially disassembled. Refer to diagrams if available for specific components. Pay close attention to the probe, valve, and Duo-Tight fittings.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect all O-rings and seals for signs of wear, cracking, or damage. Replace any worn components to maintain a leak-free seal.
- Storage: Store the beer gun in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Excessive Foaming | Beer is too warm; too much pressure; filling too quickly. | Ensure beer is adequately chilled. Reduce CO2 pressure slightly. Fill bottles slowly and consistently from the bottom up. |
| Leaking from connections | Loose Duo-Tight fittings; damaged O-rings. | Check all Duo-Tight connections and ensure they are fully seated. Inspect O-rings for wear and replace if necessary. |
| Slow Filling | Insufficient pressure; blockage in lines or gun. | Verify adequate CO2 pressure in the keg. Disassemble and clean the beer gun and lines to check for blockages. |
| Beer not dispensing | Beer gun not fully pressed against bottle bottom; valve stuck. | Ensure the beer gun is firmly pressed to engage the spring-loaded mechanism. Check for any obstructions in the valve. |

User Tips
- Always ensure your beer is adequately chilled before bottling. Colder beer holds CO2 better, leading to less foaming during filling.
- Maintain appropriate CO2 pressure in your keg. Too high pressure can cause excessive foaming, while too low pressure can result in slow filling and flat beer.
- Utilize the recommended depth level marker on your tubing for consistent fill levels across all your bottles.
- Sanitation is key in home brewing. Always sanitize your beer gun and bottles thoroughly to prevent contamination.
