5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Mounting the Wave Maker

  1. Ensure your aquarium glass is clean and free of algae or debris where you intend to mount the pump.
  2. Place the wave maker pump inside the aquarium, ensuring the propeller is fully submerged.
  3. Attach the external magnetic mount to the outside of the aquarium glass, directly opposite the pump. The strong magnet will firmly hold the pump in place.
  4. Adjust the position and angle of the pump to achieve the desired water flow direction. The pump features 360° free rotation for flexible adjustment.

The controller allows for intelligent adjustment of the wave maker's performance:

  • Light Sensor: Automatically adjusts operation based on ambient light.
  • Speed Indicators: Displays the current pump speed.
  • Wave Modes (W1, W2, Else, H, C): Select from various wave patterns.
  • Master/Slave Switch: For wireless linkage of multiple pumps.
  • MODE/NIGHT Button: Toggles between normal and night mode. In night mode, the light is automatically adjusted to a gentle wave.
  • SPEED/FEED Button: Adjusts pump speed and activates feeding pause mode.
  • WI-LE/LOCK Button: Controls wireless linkage and locks settings to prevent accidental changes.
  • POWER/PUMP Knob: Easily adjusts the desired waveform and power.

6.2 Wave Modes and Speed Adjustment

The controller offers eight-speed water flow adjustment and four intelligent wave patterns:

  • W1: Classic wave mode.
  • W2: Sine wave mode.
  • Else: Random flow mode.
  • H: Constant flow mode.
  • C: Crossflow mode.

Use the POWER/PUMP knob to fine-tune the intensity of the selected wave pattern.

6.3 Feeding Mode

Press the SPEED/FEED button once to activate the one-button pause for feeding. This temporarily stops the pump, allowing your aquatic creatures to feed undisturbed. The pump will resume operation automatically after a set period (typically 10 minutes).

6.4 Night Mode

Press the MODE/NIGHT button to activate night mode. In this mode, the pump's operation is automatically adjusted to a gentle wave, reducing disturbance during nighttime hours.

6.5 Wireless Linkage (for multiple pumps)

The controller supports wireless linkage, allowing you to set up a master controller and multiple secondary controllers. This enables synchronized control of multiple pumps to achieve complex multi-pump wave combinations.

7. Maintenance

Regular cleaning of your wave maker is essential to ensure optimal performance and extend its lifespan.

7.1 Disassembly and Cleaning

  1. Unplug the power adapter from the wall outlet before performing any maintenance.
  2. Carefully remove the wave maker pump from the aquarium.
  3. The pump body and bracket can be detached easily without the need for special tools. Gently separate the components.
  4. Clean the impeller, pump housing, and mesh cover to remove any algae, debris, or calcium buildup. A soft brush and aquarium-safe cleaning solution (e.g., vinegar for calcium) can be used.
  5. Rinse all components thoroughly with clean water before reassembling.
  6. Reassemble the pump and remount it in your aquarium.

The curved fine mesh cover effectively prevents fish or foreign objects from getting stuck in the pump body, but regular cleaning is still necessary to maintain efficiency.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Pump not turning on: Check all power connections. Ensure the power adapter is securely plugged into both the controller and the wall outlet.
  • Weak or inconsistent flow: Disassemble and clean the pump thoroughly. Check for any obstructions in the impeller or outlet. Ensure the pump is fully submerged.
  • Excessive noise: Clean the impeller and pump housing. Ensure the magnetic mount is securely attached and the pump is not vibrating against the aquarium glass. The four-pole ultra-quiet motor is designed for silent operation, so unusual noise indicates an issue.
  • Controller unresponsive: Unplug the power adapter, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in to reset the controller.
  • WiFi connection issues (SOW-M Series): Ensure your mobile device is connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network during setup. Follow the app's instructions for pairing.

9. User Tips

  • Power Supply: The wave maker operates on 100V-240V, making it compatible with various international power supplies. However, always ensure you have the correct plug adapter for your region if needed.
  • Impeller Color: For models like the SOW-4, the impeller blade color can vary (e.g., blue or white). This is a cosmetic difference and does not affect performance.
  • Sine Wave Technology: The sine wave technology used in these pumps ensures a more stable and low-noise operation compared to ordinary pumps. For optimal performance, ensure the pump is equipped with its corresponding model power controller.
